2Gbps Fibre Broadband
What is offered in the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
The 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan consists of two dedicated 1Gbps fibre connections and two free units of StarHub Smart WiFi for an optimum Internet user experience.
One fibre connection can be connected to the StarHub Smart WiFi to provide the best Wi-Fi coverage and another fibre connection can be connected directly to a Smart TV, gaming console, OTT, extra router, or computer for a dedicated Internet access.
What is the monthly subscription of the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
Our 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan is priced at $55.49 per month (with GST) and has a 24-month contract. You can add on a router for an additional fee.
The monthly subscription fee may change depending on ongoing promotions. For instance, the 2Gbps plan with a free premium requires a mandatory top up of 1 Smart WiFi Pro router and the monthly subscription will be $67.52 (with GST). You can check our latest offers here.
What are the benefits of having the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
The two dedicated 1Gbps fibre broadband connections allow more bandwidth activities to take place concurrently without compromising on speed. They also allow you to extend your home WiFi coverage, especially with the two free units of StarHub Smart WiFi included as part of the plan.
This can be especially helpful under the following circumstances:
• In multi-storey houses that require additional fibre connections on the different levels (extra surface cabling needed).
• When there are multiple devices requiring fibre connection, for example, Smart TV, gaming console and streaming box.
• One user has heavy Internet usage, and a direct Internet LAN connection ensures sufficient dedicated bandwidth to their device, for example, a gamer or a home business owner.
How will the setup of the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan be like?
In a typical 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan setup, ports 1 & 3 of the ONT will each have a dedicated fibre connection that can be connected to any suitable internet devices. For example, StarHub Smart WiFi, third-party routers, Smart TV, gaming console, computer and OTT box.
I noticed that the two 1Gbps fibre broadband connections are plugged in to port 1 and port 3 of the Optical Network Terminal. What are the maximum speeds I can expect from the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband when both ports are used concurrently?
You can refer to the table for the maximum speed of each port respectively.
|Download speed||Combined (Port 1 & 3) maximum up to 2Gbps (maximum 1Gbps each port)|
|Upload speed||Combined (Port 1 & 3) maximum up to 1Gbps (maximum 1Gbps each port)|
You can check the broadband speed by conducting a speed test via StarHub's speedtest website or Speedtest by Ookla. For more information on the typical speed range for Home Broadband, you can refer to www.starhub.com/typical-broadband-speed-plans.
Note that there are a lot of factors that can affect the speed of your broadband connection. If you frequently experience speeds slower than the typical speed range, visit this page for basic troubleshooting guides and helpful tips to improve your connection at home.
My speed test download speed did not exceed beyond 1Gbps. Is this normal?
Yes, each wired connection on the ONT/ VeONT to your WiFi Mesh, third party router, access point and/or Internet-enabled device will not exceed beyond 1Gbps. However, the combined download bandwidth of all the connected devices in your household will be up to 2Gbps.
Can I connect the additional fibre connection to a different part of my house or on a different level?
You can do so by installing surface cabling and data points.
Should you require our help, an appointment can be made for our technician to install surface cabling and data point in your home for a fee.
Can I connect one router each to ports 1 and 3?
Yes, you can. However, the two different routers will have two separate Wi-Fi SSIDs.
I am a new StarHub Fibre Broadband customer and would like to sign up for the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan. Is service installation inclusive in the plan?
You will enjoy free service installation worth $90.84 when you sign up for the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan.
I am an existing Fibre Broadband customer and would like to recontract to the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan. Do I have to self-collect my broadband equipment?
You will not need to self-collect your broadband equipment as equipment installation will be included.
I am an existing customer still in contract with 1Gbps Fibre Broadband. Can I upgrade my plan to 2Gbps Fibre Broadband without signing a new contract?
No, you will need to take up a new 24-month contract with the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan.
I am currently sharing the ONT/VeONT in my home with another subscriber (e.g. tenant). What will happen when I sign up for the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
You will be issued a new ONT/VeONT, an additional service activation charge of $57.24 will apply and your 2Gbps service will be set up on the new ONT/VeONT. If a new Termination Point is required, the prevailing Termination Point installation charge of $162.00 for high-rise buildings and $291.60 for landed properties will apply.
I am currently on StarHub’s 1Gbps Fibre Broadband with Fibre TV. How should I reconfigure the setup when I recontract to the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
On the service activation date of the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan, port 3 of the ONT will be activated for Internet service, to which you may connect any suitable Internet devices. Port 1 of the ONT remains unchanged and will continue to provide Internet service.
Does your HomeHub Plus plan come with a 2Gbps Fibre Broadband option?
What are the compatible ONT/VeONT for the 2Gbps Fibre Broadband plan?
The compatible ONTs/VeONTs are 8040H, 8240H, 8040H5 and 8240H5. If you are using a non-compatible ONT/VeONT (e.g. 863, 8040, 8240), an appointment will be scheduled for our technician to visit your home to replace the ONT/VeONT.
