What is e-waste?
E-waste, short for electronic waste, refers to discarded electronic and electrical products, such as routers, mobile phones, laptops, batteries, and wires.
What is the government’s new national e-waste recycling programme about?
The national regulated e-waste management programme spearheaded by the National Environment Agency (NEA), will commence on 1 July 2021. NEA has appointed ALBA E-Waste Smart Recycling (ALBA) to manage the collection of regulated consumer e-waste across Singapore for proper treatment and recycling.
What is StarHub’s role in the government’s new national e-waste recycling programme?
In support of the government’s new national e-waste recycling programme, StarHub will fulfil its duties as a responsible retailer, offering consumers (a) in-store collection of e-waste at designated locations; and (b) one-for-one take-back of regulated consumer electronic products during home deliveries, at no cost to consumers.
How does StarHub’s in-store e-waste collection work?
E-waste collection bins are available at StarHub Shops in Plaza Singapura and Tampines Mall. Please click here for shop locations and operating hours.
Do I have to be a StarHub customer to use the e-waste collection bins at StarHub shops?
The e-waste collection bins at StarHub Shops in Plaza Singapura and Tampines Mall are open to the public and take in e-waste disposals that adhere to the accepted list of electronic products.
What electronic products can be deposited into the e-waste collection bins at designated StarHub Shops?
NEA designated regulated consumer products that can be deposited here are:
a. Network & Set-top box (Please check with your internet/ pay TV service provider if this should be returned to them)
b. Mobile Phone & Tablet (Please erase all personal data from the device)
c. Printer (Weighs less than 20kg)
d. Computer & Laptop (Able to fit through a 500mm by 250mm slot)
e. TV & Desktop Monitor (Able to fit through a 500mm by 250mm slot)
f. Bulb & Battery (Bulb circumference not more than 100mm)
What if I have products that are outside of the accepted list or are too large for disposal in the bins at StarHub Shops?
We appreciate your understanding that we are unable to accept products that are not on the list of NEA’s regulated consumer products for StarHub. Please email ALBA at: contact@alba-wh.sg or call them at 800 852 6860 on how to otherwise recycle your e-waste legally and safely.
How does the one-for-one take-back of regulated consumer products work?
StarHub will provide one-for-one take-back of products of the same class or type and quantity as the supplied products during a delivery appointment at the customer’s premises. E.g., when our technician delivers a StarHub Smart WiFi Pro router to a customer’s home, the customer can request for the technician to collect an old router for disposal.
What electronic products are accepted for one-for-one take-back?
Please request for our technicians to take back products of the same class or type and quantity as the supplied products during the delivery appointment. The NEA regulated consumer products that are accepted are:
a. Router
b. Modem (Please check with your internet service provider if this should be returned to them)
c. Set-top box (Please check with your pay TV service provider if this should be returned to them)
d. Mobile Phone & Tablet (Please erase all personal data from the device)
e. Portable Battery
Can StarHub technicians make a special trip to collect a piece of e-waste (E.g., tablet) at my home?
We appreciate your understanding that our technicians will only be able to take back from customers, products of the same class or type and quantity as the supplied products during the same delivery appointment.
Can StarHub technicians take back more than one product from me?
We appreciate your understanding that our technicians will only be able to take back from customers, products of the same class or type and quantity as the supplied products during the same delivery appointment.
I refer to the listing of accepted e-waste products on NEA's website, ALBA's website or the e-waste recycling bins. Can StarHub technicians accept any product on those lists?
We appreciate your understanding that our technicians will only be able to take back from customers, products of the same class or type and quantity as the supplied products during the same delivery appointment. Besides StarHub Shops in Plaza Singapura and Tampines Mall, you can conveniently access any of the more than 300 e-waste recycling bins that ALBA has deployed in public locations. Please head over to ALBA’s website for the list of bin locations.
Will anyone be able to retrieve my product after it is deposited into the bin or handed over by mistake to the technician?
The national e-waste recycling scheme is managed by ALBA, who was appointed by NEA. We seek your understanding that we do not have authorisation to retrieve any product after it has been deposited into the bin or handed over to the technician.
What rewards will I get for recycling my e-waste?
