I have just signed up for a new 5G Unlimited+ or 5G Platinum Plan. What are the roaming entitlements included in the plan?

5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum Plans come with global roaming included. The amount of roaming data included will differ depending on the plan you signed up to.


5G Lite Plan Includes:

  • Roaming data: 2GB Total
  • 1GB to 5 SEA destinations
  • 1GB to 165 Global destinations

5G Unlimited+ Core Plan Includes:

  • Roaming data: 8GB Total
  • 5GB to 5 SEA destinations
  • 3GB to 165 Global destinations
  • Roaming calls & SMS: Unlimited

5G Unlimited+ Plus Plan Includes:

  • Roaming data: 15GB Total
  • 10GB to 20 APAC destinations
  • 5GB to 165 Global destinations
  • Roaming calls & SMS: Unlimited

5G Unlimited+ Max Plan Includes:

  • Roaming data: 20GB to 165 Global destinations

Will the roaming entitlements included in my 5G Unlimited+ / 5G Platinum Plan expire?

Your roaming entitlements will expire at the end of each monthly renewal cycle, meaning unused data will not be carried over. Your roaming entitlements will refresh with each monthly plan renewal.

I noticed that the different plans come with different roaming entitlements and regions.  What are the countries that are covered in each of the regions: SEA, APAC and Global?

The number of destinations covered within each region are:
- SEA : 5 destinations
- APAC: 20 destinations
- Global: 165 destinations

If my plan includes roaming data entitlements in different regions, how will the roaming data be deducted from my entitlements?

Depending on the destination you are in, your available roaming entitlements will be deducted in this sequence:

1) SEA 5 destinations
2) APAC 20 destinations
3) Global 165 destinations.

For example: If you are in Malaysia and have both SEA and Global roaming entitlements, your data usage will be taken from your SEA roaming entitlement, followed by Global.

Can I choose which entitlement to be deducted first?

No, you will not be able to choose which roaming entitlement is used up first.

My plan includes data roaming entitlements for both SEA and Global and I am traveling to South Korea.  Which roaming entitlement will be deducted?

In this case, any roaming data you utilise will be deducted from your Global roaming data entitlement.

As South Korea is not included in the list of 5 SEA destinations (Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam), there will be no deduction from this entitlement.

I will not be travelling this month.  Will my data roaming entitlements rollover to the next month?

I am in Malaysia and I have data roaming entitlements for SEA and Global destinations. I have fully utilised my SEA roaming data entitlements. Do I need to purchase an additional roaming data pack for SEA?

As long as you still have Global roaming data available, you do not need to purchase additional data. You may purchase add-on roaming data if your Global data has also been fully utilised.

My plan includes roaming data in APAC and Global regions.
If I am travelling to USA with a flight stopover in Taiwan, which roaming data entitlements will be deducted assuming there are entitlements in both regions?

The following will be the deduction sequence based on your travel plans:

- Stopover in Taiwan: If you connect to a mobile network and use data while in Taiwan, the data utilised will be deducted from your APAC roaming data entitlement.

- End destination USA: If you connect to a mobile network and use data while in the USA, the data utilised will be deducted from your Global roaming data entitlement.

How do I activate/purchase data/voice/SMS roaming service on 5G Unlimited+ / 5G Platinum Plan?

Roaming is already included and activated on 5G Unlimited+ / 5G Platinum Plans! While the amount of roaming data varies according to your plan, all 5G Unlimited+ Plans come with unlimited roaming calls and SMS.

To purchase additional roaming data, head to your mobile dashboard on the StarHub app.

What roaming add-ons for data/voice/SMS are available for 5G Unlimited+ / 5G Platinum Plan?

5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum plans already include unlimited roaming calls and SMS.

You may purchase additional roaming data if you use up the entitlement included in your plan:

  • 10GB for 20 APAC destinations @ $10
  • 15GB for 165 Global destinations. @ $15

Can I activate/purchase DataTravel plan for 5G Unlimited+ / 5G Platinum Plan?

No, DataTravel is not available for on our 5G Unlimited+ and 5G Platinum Plans.

Usage and Restriction

I am in the Maldives and I have available APAC roaming data but I have fully consumed my Global roaming entitlements. What will happen now?

The 20 destinations included in APAC roaming entitlements does not cover the Maldives. You will need available Global roaming data to enjoy data roaming in the Maldives.

You can purchase a 15GB Global data add-on at just $15 via the StarHub app.

If I have fully utilised my free roaming data, will there be excess charges?

No.  Once you have fully consumed all your free roaming data, your roaming data service will be suspended. It will be lifted when your mobile plan is renewed.

What will happen if I fully utilise all my free data roaming entitlements and I want to continue using roaming data?

When you have fully consumed all your free roaming data entitlements, your roaming data service will be suspended until your mobile plan renews and your entitlements are refreshed.

Alternatively, you can purchase and activate a roaming data add-on via the StarHub app. Before you activate an add-on data roaming pack, do ensure that the destination you are in is covered by that pack.

There are 3 roaming data packs:
- 5GB for 5 SEA destinations at $5
- 10GB for 20 APAC destinations at $10
- 15GB for 165 Global destinations at $15

Can the free data roaming entitlements used on inflight or on cruise?

No. You will not be able to use it while inflight or while on a cruise.

I am traveling to a destination outside of the 165 destination, will I be able to have data and voice service?

No. Unfortunately we are not able to offer roaming services outside of the 165 global destinations listed.

I have roaming data included with my plan. Do I have to do anything in order to use the free roaming data?

No, you do not need to do anything to use the free roaming data.  However, if you have changed your phone settings in the past, please ensure you have set the following:

- APN is set to SHWAP
- network selection is set to automatic
- VoLTE is turned on
- Ensure that your International Roaming is enabled
- If you have dual SIM, ensure that the correct SIM card is used for data roaming
- If you have use an eSIM in the past, ensure that it is disabled

Once you have changed any of the above settings, do restart your phone.

I am overseas and I am latched onto a network.  However, I am experiencing very slow data.  What can I do?

When you are facing slow network issues, try the following:

1) Ensure that you have set network selection to "Automatic"
2) If you still experience slowness, manually select another mobile network operator if the destination you are in has more than one operator.

If you are in a remote area, the overseas mobile operator's network coverage may be poor.  Once you move away from the area, your connection should improve.

I have fully utilised my roaming data and I need to activate an add-on pack.  However, I am not able to open my StarHub app.  What can I do?

When you run out of roaming data, you will need to connect to a WiFi network to access the StarHub app. Once you are connected to a WiFi network, you will be able to purchase a roaming data add-on of your choice.

Is there a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) for my mobile plan?

Yes. There will be a daily limit set (depending on operator). The reset will be at 23:59 daily.

With the included roaming data, can I use my line as a mobile hotspot for my family and friends when I am overseas?

Yes, of course. Do keep in mind that data usage on any devices connected to your hotspot will utilise data from your entitlements.

I have global roaming data with my plan but I do not have any data roaming service. Why is this?

Please check if the destination you are in is covered as one of our 165 Global roaming destinations. If is not one of the 165 destinations, your data entitlements cannot be used.

I am currently in a covered destination. I am not able to use roaming service. What can I do?

Please check:
- If you are latched onto an overseas partner network
- If your phone settings are setup correctly
- If your roaming data is enabled on your phone
- If you have roaming data entitlement in the correct region

How can I check my roaming data entitlements and usages when overseas?

When overseas, you can check your roaming data balances via the StarHub app.  

There will be no data usage charges for using the StarHub app while overseas.

Will I be notified on my expiry and balance of my roaming data entitlements?

Yes. You may receive the following SMS notifications:

- A low or no balance notification if you have 500MB or less remaining or if you have fully utilised your balance respectively.

- Expiry notifications:
- 24 hours before expiry
- 1 hour before expiry
- Once your entitlements expire

Alternatively, you can check the available entitlements and expiry via the StarHub app.

How do I activate roaming? Is it free or does it come with a charge?

Your roaming service is activated automatically.

Simply ensure you have sufficient roaming entitlements/add-ons and you're ready to roam.

    • VoiceTravel Everywhere $30 comes with 20 mins roaming call and 20 roaming SMS for 30 days

How do I purchase a roaming add-on?

You can purchase roaming add-ons on the StarHub app.

How do I check if my Star Plan roaming add-on is active or not?

Your Star Plan roaming add-on is automatically activated when you arrive at your travel destination.

To check if your roaming add-on is active/inactive, you can go to your mobile dashboard on the StarHub app, select the service, and go to “Roaming”.

Note that the “Roaming” button only appears if you purchased a roaming add-on.

Is there any extra charge if I exceed my Star Plan roaming entitlement/add-on?

You will not incur any excess roaming charges. If you've fully utilised your Star Plan roaming data, minutes, or SMS in your roaming entitlement/add-on, your outgoing services will stop immediately, and you can simply stack on extras to continue with your service. I purchased the wrong Star Plan roaming add-on. Can I get a refund?

We’re sorry to hear about this. There are no refunds for Star Plan add-ons that have been purchased. You can utilise your roaming add-on within 90 days of your purchase, and it will be automatically activated when you arrive at your travel destination.

Can I also purchase the roaming add-ons available for 4G/Mobile+ plans and prepaid mobile?

No, other roaming add-ons are not compatible with Star Plan, which has its own set of roaming add-ons.

Are the roaming charges the same as with StarHub postpaid or prepaid?

No, the charges are not the same as there's no pay-per-use for Star Plan roaming services. You can roam overseas worry-free with no accidental or excess charges because roaming services (data, and outgoing calls and SMS) are only available with a valid roaming entitlement or add-on.

Will I be able to use roaming services even without purchasing an add-on?

A valid roaming entitlement or add-on is required in order to use roaming data, and receive incoming or make outgoing calls and send outgoing SMS. If you don't have roaming entitlements or add-ons, you'll still be able to receive incoming SMS while roaming at the supported destinations.

How do I deactivate roaming?

You don't have to deactivate your roaming. No accidental or excess roaming charges will happen, as roaming services (data, and outgoing calls and SMS) will only be available with a valid roaming entitlement or add-on.

I'm already overseas and I have issues with my roaming services. Where can I get help?

Please try these simple steps to get connected while overseas:

  • Ensure that your device is set to the right APN (SHWAP).
  • Check that data roaming is turned on under your device settings.
  • Turn airplane mode on and off for 5 seconds.
  • Manually select the overseas telco operator under your device settings.
