Who is Sunseap?

Sunseap Group is the leading integrated clean energy solutions provider in Singapore. It operates through three key units: Sunseap Leasing, Sunseap International and Sunseap Energy.

  1. Sunseap Leasing is the largest solar leasing company in Singapore with over 200 MegaWatt-peak (MWp) of contracted projects.
  2. Sunseap International targets markets in the South East Asian and Pacific regions. These include a 140 MegaWatt-peak (MWp) solar farm in India and a 10 MWp solar farm in Cambodia.
  3. Sunseap Energy specializes in clean energy solutions utilising off-site arrangements by drawing on solar systems within the Group’s portfolio of distributed generation assets. A notable client of Sunseap Energy is Apple, which recently signed an agreement with Sunseap to procure 100% of its local energy requirements from renewable sources.

How is StarHub able to provide Green Energy Plans?

The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore is opening up the electricity market to allow consumers such as yourself to enjoy more choices and flexibility in your electricity purchases.

StarHub is working with Sunseap to bring you cleaner energy at affordable prices. Sunseap is Singapore’s largest clean energy provider in Singapore and will power your home with a combination of locally produced solar power and conventional energy, depending on your selected plan.

Why is the government opening up the electricity market?

Since 2001, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) has been progressively opening up the electricity market to provide consumers with more choices and flexibility as to who they can buy electricity from. This initiative, the Open Electricity Market, will first start in Jurong and is expected to be extended to the rest of Singapore in the second half of 2018*.

How do I know that I am using clean energy from Sunseap?

Sunseap’s clean energy is certified by the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) and will be compiled and audited at the end of each calendar year so you can be assured that the clean energy supplied to you is verified and audited.

Sunseap’s clean energy is generated across a portfolio of solar systems in Singapore, spanning more than a thousand buildings including public housing estates and commercial buildings such as SMRT, Jurong Port, Panasonic, ST Kinetics and PSA.

Depending on the plan you are on, Sunseap will match 5% or 100% of your electricity usage with supply of clean energy exported to the national grid.

Do I need to rewire anything to enjoy clean energy?

No, you do not need to rewire anything, Sunseap will provide electricity through the national grid maintained by SP Group to your home.

Is it a hassle to change electricity provider?

No, sign up for Jurong residents with postal code beginning with 60,61,62, 63 and 64 is now open. Will there be enough solar energy generated?

Sunseap has consistently provided clean energy for their commercial and industrial customers, including Apple and Microsoft. You can be assured that Sunseap will continue to supply sufficient energy to meet the electricity demand of their customers as they have a portfolio of solar panels across more than 1,000 buildings across Singapore which will continue to expand progressively to match demand for clean energy.

How is the Green Energy Plan different from installing solar panels on my roof?

Sunseap will generate electricity from their portfolio of solar panels across 1,000 buildings in Singapore and deliver it to you via the national grid. This means you can get clean energy without installing solar panels on your roof. Our Green Energy Plans make clean energy more accessible to all households in Singapore as Residence type and infrastructure is no longer a limitation for consumers to enjoy clean energy.

What is the difference between getting clean energy with the Green Energy Plans and other retailer’s plans which are carbon neutral?

By choosing our Green Energy Plans, you are choosing to purchase electricity generated from solar power, a renewable energy that does not harm the environment in the process of generating energy. At Sunseap, the clean energy generated is audited and certified by SERIS at the end of each year. Carbon neutral on the other hand refers to offsetting your carbon emissions with carbon credits. This means that your electricity is still generated through conventional, non-renewable means.

Why is there no discount for Green Life Plan but a 20% discount for Green Save Plan? Why is there only 5% in the Green Save plan as compared to 100% clean energy in the Green Life Plan?

Our goal is to make clean energy affordable for every household. At present, the cost of the system generating solar energy still requires significant investment, however we have made it competitive with the current regulated rate. With Green Life , we offer customers 100% clean energy at the same regulated rate .With Green Save, we want to give customers who are more cost conscious the option to take a small step and contribute to the a greener future, while enjoying discount off the SP regulated tariff.

How long does a solar panel last and what happens after its life cycle?

Sunseap’s solar panels have back-to-back warranty by the manufacturers for up to 25 years. Thereafter, depending on the condition the panels will either be used as they are, or replaced by new ones. The panels that are replaced may be redeployed or recycled.

What is StarHub’s contribution to sustainability through this energy business?
