2G Roaming

Global mobile operators are retiring legacy 2G networks to free up wireless spectrum. This allows them to reallocate resources to faster, more secure, and more efficient 4G and 5G technologies.

2G mobile network overseas will be phased out with effect from 10 June 2026.

Check your device settings under "Network Mode." If the phone only supports 2G, or if it lacks a "VoLTE" (Voice over LTE) toggle feature, it is affected. View Eligible 5G Enterprise Devices

For iPhone Users
1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular or Mobile Data).
3. Select SIM “Primary” (or Mobile Data Options or Cellular Data Options).
4. Tap Voice & Data.
5. If 5G On or 5G Auto is visible, the device supports 5G.
6. If LTE is selected and a toggle for VoLTE appears (on older iOS versions), it supports VoLTE.
Note: iPhone 6s and newer support VoLTE automatically, while iPhone 12 and newer support 5G.

For Android Users
1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Connections or Network & internet.
3. Select Mobile networks.
4. Look for a VoLTE or Advanced Calling toggle. If it is there, the device supports 4G VoLTE.
5. Tap Preferred network type. If 5G is listed as an option, the device supports 5G.

After 10 June 2026, any employee using a 2G-only device overseas will face a total loss of signal. They will be unable to make or receive voice calls, send or receive SMS messages, or use mobile data roaming.

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE. It allows voice calls to be made over a 4G or 5G data network instead of traditional legacy channels. Without VoLTE activation on a compatible phone, users cannot make voice calls in areas where 2G/3G are retired.
