Customers to Benefit from Simplified Pricing Structure

Singapore, 18 January 2001 -- StarHub, Singapore’s new info-communication service provider, today announced the launch of new calling rates and unveiled a new pricing structure for calls to Malaysia for its premium IDD 008 international call service. Starting from 19 January 2001, residential, mobile, business customers as well as users of StarHub payphones and HomeConnect pre-paid calling cards will enjoy savings of up to 70% compared to existing SingTel IDD 001 and STD 020 rates when they use IDD 008 to call Malaysia.

In addition, StarHub has introduced a simplified pricing scheme so that customers will no longer have to grapple with peak and non-peak rates, or several levels of multi-zonal pricing. When making calls to Malaysia, StarHub IDD 008 customers will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Single all day rate at:

$0.08 per minute to all towns in the State of Johor, including Johor Bahru.

$0.33 per minute to the rest of Malaysia outside Johor (including East Malaysia) and to Malaysian registered mobile phones.

  • Per second billing, as customers need only pay for the actual duration of usage for each call they make.

With the new pricing scheme, customers will find it easier to calculate the cost of each call to Malaysia at any time of the day. Now they only need to remember two rates compared to the multi-zonal pricing structure offered by SingTel and other IDD operators.

Mr. William Tan, General Manager, Voice and Fixed Services at StarHub says, "Traditional complex pricing structures charging consumers peak and off-peak rates have become a thing of the past. What StarHub has always promised is to provide our customers with a premier international call service that offers them value, convenience and simplicity. Malaysia is one of the most popular destinations' amongst our customers. Now when StarHub IDD 008 customers call their families, friends or business associates in Malaysia they will enjoy more savings and convenience compared to using SingTel 001 or STD 020 to the same destination."

Customers also have an added incentive to use IDD 008 between 18 December 2000 to 31 March 2001. All registered customers (except business registered lines) making a minimum 3 minute call will qualify to participate in StarHub’s "Call The World See The World" promotion. Each entry will entitle the customer to one (1) chance to qualify for a weekly and a grand lucky draw. Each week winners stand to win one pair of Economy Class tickets with cash up to $800.00 per winner to the country they called. This means the more calls each customer makes, the more chances they stand to win! In addition, all entries will also be eligible to enter into the grand draw to win a pair of Business-Class Round-The-World air-tickets and S$8000.00 cash.

Added Mr. Tan, "The response to StarHub’s international call services have been very positive and we believe that the new pricing model for calls to Malaysia will bring more value to our customers. At $0.08 per minute to Johor, StarHub is offering the best rate in town."

* Please note that prevailing call rates as well as the terms of conditions of StarHub’s International Call Services will apply in addition to those stipulated for the "Call The World See The World" promotion.
