Singapore , 11 July 2008 – StarHub and its corporate customers had an added incentive to drive further from the tee at the StarHub Golf Invitational 2008 today. The event, held at Raffles Country Club, was organised not only to acknowledge the support of StarHub’s corporate customers, but also aimed at raising funds to benefit children with multiple disabilities and autism from Rainbow Centre - Margaret Drive School (RCMDS).

Over 140 StarHub corporate customers and partners teed off to score for charity at StarHub’s annual golf event, raising $72,320 for RCMDS. StarHub decided that it would boost the total amount donated to $200,000.

Golfers participated in the "Drive-further-for-charity" challenge at Hole 8, whereby StarHub donated $3 for every metre driven from the tee. They also pit their skills in the "In-the-zone" challenge at Hole 17, whereby StarHub donated $500 for every ball that landed inside the Zone area, spanning a 1.5m radius around the pin, and $200 for every ball that landed on the green.

RCMDS provides special education opportunities for children with developmental disabilities and multiple disabilities, which may include a combination of intellectual, physical, visual and hearing impairments.

In line with StarHub’s belief in providing the less fortunate with opportunities for education and skills enhancement, the donation, which was made through the StarHub Sparks Fund, will provide special education and rehabilitative services for 266 RCMDS students. By helping to fund the purchase of teaching aids and the professional services of special education teachers, psychologists and therapists, StarHub aims to contribute in developing each child to his fullest potential.

Ms Goh Li-Li, StarHub’s Head of Corporate Sales, said, “We thank all golfers present for making the StarHub Golf Invitational event a success for the sixth year running.  We hope to continue to delight our corporate customers by delivering effective info-communications solutions that help their companies stay ahead in this challenging and dynamic business environment. We are also pleased to give back to our community. The funds raised in the charity challenges will go towards helping children with special needs gain better prospects of integrating into mainstream society.”

Ms Ang Bee Lian, Chief Executive Officer of the National Council of Social Service, said, “StarHub's laudable efforts in raising funds for children with disabilities keep up with its fine tradition of giving. StarHub will always be a shining star of encouragement, especially to the parents and caregivers of these children. The generous support of companies like StarHub, go a long way towards helping charities achieve their goals and provide the social services that meet the critical needs of the disadvantaged in our society.”

StarHub’s Chairman, Mr Tan Guong Ching, presented the cheque of $200,000 to Ms Peggy Song, Principal of RCMDS, at the Raffles Country Club Ballroom as golfers relaxed after their fruitful day on the green.

Since StarHub was established in 2000, the company has donated some $5 million to help the less unfortunate.
