Innovative prepaid residential broadband service offers greater flexibility without registration and monthly bill payment

Singapore, 8 March 2004 – Revolutionising the local broadband Internet access market, StarHub today announced the launch of Singapore’s first prepaid broadband service – MaxOnline FlexiSurf 1500 .

From tomorrow, Internet users will have yet another new StarHub residential broadband service to choose from.

Packed with all the benefits of a regular MaxOnline access service, the prepaid broadband service allows users to enjoy always-on, unlimited broadband access to Internet for up to 1.5 Mbps (Megabits per second) of download speed. In addition, they enjoy the freedom of choice between Macs and PCs since MaxOnline supports both platforms with ease, and the convenience of concurrent broadband Internet access in a wireless home network as well as peace of mind with StarHub’s 24-hour technical support.

Said Mr Thomas Ee, Senior Vice President at StarHub: “The new service allows Internet users the flexibility to pay for broadband access as and when he or she needs to surf. Our FlexiSurf service is best suited for Internet users with less frequent need for broadband access. In other words, it’s an alternative to a monthly subscription service for people with occasional needs. For example, someone who travels for a significant amount of time can pay for broadband access only for the periods of time they are in town and able to enjoy the service.”

MaxOnline FlexiSurf 1500 is available at a daily rate of $2.50 for a minimum of five and up to a maximum of 25 consecutive days of Net usage. To get started with this prepaid broadband service, new customers simply purchase a cable modem from any StarHub Shop or any of our MaxOnline Preferred Partners. Upon connecting the cable modem to your computer at home, the service can be immediately activated with a secured credit card payment via StarHub’s website. Subsequently, customers can also easily extend their MaxOnline FlexiSurf 1500 service by returning to the same secured website to make the necessary top-up.

“With FlexiSurf, no registration or monthly bill payments needs to be done, so getting broadband connected is just a few clicks away. It’s a very simple process, even for people that don’t consider themselves to be Internet savvy. FlexiSurf also provides the opportunity for those that currently access the Internet via dial-up modems to enjoy the benefits of true broadband without a long-term commitment. FlexiSurf users can easily convert to a MaxOnline 1500 or MaxOnline 3000 service, or remain as a MaxOnline FlexiSurf 1500 customer,“ added Mr Ee.

Customers can easily check the status of their MaxOnline FlexiSurf 1500 account via StarHub’s website at by clicking at the ‘Check your service status here’ button. As an added convenience for users at home, the FlexiSurf customer can set it as the home page of their Internet browser so they can check the remaining credit status as they enjoy their broadband experience.
