Of course, that’s not all we’ve got – we’ve also weighed in a bit on this upcoming clash. Who do you think is going to win?

Manchester City: 2nd Place

All in all, the Sky Blues are certainly having an excellent run so far, seeing as they’re sitting pretty at second. With a total of 61 points accrued over 19 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses, they trail just eight points behind ladder-leader Arsenal.

Even so, what makes things really exciting is that Man City definitely has a bone to pick with Liverpool. The Reds scored a narrow 1-0 victory over them last August, so chances are the Sky Blues are itching to dish out some payback on their home turf at Etihad Stadium.

Player Check: Erling Haaland (Forward)

Just like his team, Haaland is one of the season’s best performers, having netted the ball 21 times over 15 appearances. As the cherry on top, 9 of those were from three hat-tricks, too. Backed up by strong and creative midfield enablers like De Bruyne, it’s probably going to be tough for Liverpool to find offensive picks throughout the match.

Liverpool: 6th Place

With a hop, skip and a jump – a pattern which basically describes their ladder progression this season, the Reds seem to have regained enough of their footing to hold the fort at sixth place. Currently, the club holds 42 points on the ladder, accrued over 12 wins, 6 draws and 8 losses.

Rather amusingly, both of Liverpool’s biggest highlights this season have come courtesy of Manchester United. After a 2-1 loss to the Red Devils last August which sent them spiralling from 12th down to 16th, Liverpool returned with a 7-0 vengeance that had the Devils seeing their namesake colour on the pitch.

Player Check: Virgil van Dijk (Defender)

With Haaland on that big of a roll, Liverpool’s defensive backbone will surely be tested this weekend, and the mountainous task of keeping him at bay primarily falls to the Reds’ number 4. Frankly, there’s not much else to say – either Liverpool’s defence shatters early from Haaland and De Bruyne’s offensive tempo, or it holds long enough for their own forwards like Diaz to go on the offensive.

Who’s our pick?

Based on their recent form and consistency this season, not to mention that they’re playing on home ground, we’re more inclined to go with Manchester City. Although Liverpool emerged victorious the last time these two clashed, it’s worth mentioning that the Sky Blues held on to the ball almost twice as much as the former during that engagement.

Furthermore, Haaland has also been netting goals out the wazoo, contributing to City’s excellent showing over their past five matches. With 4 wins and 1 draw, this one’s easy if we’re just “going by the numbers”, but it’s as we said: anything can happen within those 90-odd minutes, so perhaps the Reds will pull the rug out from under City’s feet this Saturday.
