Always dreamed of going on a Europe trip but never had the time to plan for it? With our tailor-made itinerary, we help you hit the ground running!
There's always a reason to travel, and if you can't decide where, a Europe trip will certainly immerse you in a myriad of different cultures and languages, with a large variety of food, sights and shopping that will keep you wanting more!
To save you the hassle of deciding which city to start in, we've planned a five-city itinerary for your Europe trip from Singapore, alongside some iconic attractions for an enriching and fulfilling vacation! Starting in France, we will make stops along five cities with fascinating attractions: Paris, London, Antwerp, Amsterdam, and Cologne.
Read on for a fun-filled schedule of the must-visit spots and travel tips for your Europe vacation, starting with what to check out in the "City of Love".
1. Paris, France
Start your dream Europe trip in Paris, one of the world's most visited capitals. Spend at least two days here to get the most out of experiencing the city’s gothic architecture and fancy dining.
Be sure to check out the Louvre, home to arguably the most famous painting in the world, Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. A leisurely walk through the museum’s eight departments showcasing sculpture, decorative arts and paintings is an ideal way to spend one day here.
Don't miss out on Parisian dining as well, as the romantic city provides the ambience for a great night out. The Canal Saint-Martin District, for example, provides a memorable atmosphere of dining at the waterfront, watching passenger cruises go by. At night, the breathtaking views will remind you why Paris is known as the "City of Love".
From Paris, you can pick up a direct Eurostar (train) ticket to London starting at 84 €.
2. London, England
Cross the English Channel into London, and you'll start to feel more royal and classy. London makes a great three-day stay with daytime tours of the city's attractions and lazy nights drawing to a close over pints and darts in the city's many charming pubs.
Over a decade ago, a teenage Meghan Markle posed for a photo in front of Buckingham Palace during an enjoyable trip to London as a tourist. Following her 2017 engagement to Prince Harry, you could probably see more tourists retracing her steps to the royal grounds. Perhaps, like young Meghan, the Palace and its occupants will change your life in surprising ways!
Be sure to schedule your visit to Buckingham Palace to coincide with the Changing the Guard ceremony to witness the inspiring pageantry, one of the contenders for best spots to visit on a Europe trip.
Want to feel closer to home even when you're miles away? Get a supercharged taste of the Singapore Flyer experience at the London Eye. This giant Ferris wheel gives visitors a breathtaking view of the city from a high vantage point.
After exploring London, make your way further east into Europe, to the city of Antwerp. Most trains will connect through the Belgian capital of Brussels, with tickets likely costing just over 200 €.
3. Antwerp, Belgium
Every Europe trip should come with a little history lesson, so we recommend spending one to two relaxing days in Antwerp, Belgium’s second biggest city.
Exploring the hidden network of canals underneath the city is a great way to get acquainted with Antwerp! The canals are rich in history and have been in place since the Middle Ages. These underground waterways were once essential to the city’s water supply and now serve as an emblem of Antwerp's history.
One of Belgium's largest churches, the Cathedral of Our Lady is also a can't-miss attraction. There are some real gems housed within its gothic architecture, including paintings and stunning stained glass facades.
Despite the shorter distance, riding by rail remains the optimal way to get to your next destination: Amsterdam! The value-for-money option will cost about 36 € for a 2-hour train journey with options for a shorter (but pricier) ride.
4. Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Spend a colourful two days in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
A visit to a theatre or musical performance at the Royal Theatre Carré will instantly immerse you in Amsterdam's arts and culture scene. Originally built to house the circus, this whimsical artistic hub is a hive of activity, and is bound to keep you entertained!
For a more offbeat adventure, make time to drop by the Electric Ladyland Fluorescent Art Museum. Be sure to share pictures of your baptism in neon at this unique museum with friends and family back home as you go on a one-of-a-kind visual journey through this house of fluorescent art.
As your time in the Netherlands draws to a close, you can now make your final trek across Europe: the 240km journey from Amsterdam to Cologne, Germany. For a more scenic, longer journey to savour, set aside half a day to make the trip via bus, with tickets available from 15 €. You may also hop back onto the train if in a hurry, riding the railway for under three hours at 45€.
5. Cologne, Germany
Cologne is the perfect destination to conclude your Europe trip with a bang. Spend two days touring the area, or extend your trip to check out all Cologne has to offer!
Cologne is known for its thriving museum scene, with over ten museums located in Cologne itself. Amongst the many stellar ones, the Romano-Germanic Museum and the Cologne Chocolate Museum are notable mentions. For history buffs, you might be interested in EL-DE Haus, which gives a well-documented account of Cologne during the Third Reich.
Conclude your fantasy vacation at the aptly-named Phantasialand. Located just outside Cologne, this massive theme park is open yearly for the winter. Catch it this season till 14 Jan 2018! Signature attractions include high speed rollercoasters not for the faint-hearted and a mystery castle full of spooky surprises.
