Viewers in Singapore to enjoy more engagement opportunities with more top stars from July to October

Singapore, 8 July 2015 – Having played an integral part of Singapore television over the past decades, Hong Kong’s leading TV broadcaster, TVB, will be joining its longstanding partner, StarHub, to celebrate Singapore’s Golden Jubilee with greater fan engagement from July to October. Viewers in Singapore can look forward to meet-and-greet events with TVB artistes, as well as stroll down memory lane with exhibits of iconic costumes and props featured in some of TVB’s best-known titles such as The Duke of Mount Deer and Triumph in the Skies.  These events will culminate in the highly-anticipated, star-studded StarHub TVB Awards on 24 October.

StarHub Open on 9 July

Teeing off the series of events tomorrow is StarHub Open, the info-communications company's annual golf tournament that brings together industry leaders and key partners of StarHub. Sharing the greens with them will be TVB artistes Ruco Chan, Sharon Chan, Lawrence Ng, Grace Chan and Stephanie Ho. Ruco Chan—voted My Favourite TVB Actor in the 2014 StarHub TVB Awards—will also join StarHub’s management and partners to achieve the furthest drive for a good cause. StarHub will make a donation of $350 per metre from its charity fund—the StarHub Sparks Fund—to Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and METTA Welfare Association for designated holes in each of the two courses at Sentosa Golf Club.

"Singaporeans grew up watching TVB dramas, such as Return of the Condor Heroes, on rented VHS tapes in the 1980s,” shared Ms Jeannie Ong, Chief Strategic Partnership Officer, StarHub. “Today, thanks to the friendship between StarHub and TVB that has strengthened over two decades, we can enjoy highly-anticipated premiering titles concurrently with Hong Kong’s viewers via StarHub’s TVB First, Singapore’s first Subscription Video-On-Demand Channel dedicated to TVB dramas.”

“Having entertained Singaporean audiences for decades, it is especially meaningful that TVB joins us in honouring Singapore's Golden Jubilee,” she added. “We are extremely happy that they have generously chosen to step forward and share our joy in celebrating SG50.”

Mr Peter Au, Assistant General Manager of TVB, enthused, “Singapore’s 50th birthday is a significant milestone. We are honoured to have journeyed along with audiences in Singapore, and to have garnered their loyal support over the years. As StarHub’s steadfast partner, we are thrilled to be part of this important celebration for the country.  We hope to evoke wonderful shared memories via the exhibitions, and connect the community through meet-and-greet events with our TVB artistes.”

To mark the momentous occasion of Singapore's 50th birthday, viewers will be treated to specially-created videos that feature various TVB artistes exploring Singapore’s food, places and people. These videos, to be aired across StarHub TV channels, will showcase Singapore’s rich food heritage, iconic places and landmarks, as well as shared memories of Singaporeans from all walks of life on growing up with TVB dramas.
