Singapore, 26 September 2013 – After six weeks of anticipation and over half a million votes from the public, the names of the StarHub TVB Awards 2013 winners will finally be announced at the Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre on 28 September 2013. For the first time in the Awards’ history, the red carpet special will be broadcast on the same day at 6.30pm, followed by the ‘live’ telecast of the Awards ceremony on E City (StarHub TV Channel 111/825) at 7.30pm. Viewers can also catch both events on their personal devices such as laptops and smartphones via StarHub TV Anywhere.

This year’s Awards will feature a total of 20 categories, with 10 open to public for voting. Besides the coveted My Favourite TVB Actor, My Favourite TVB Actress and My Favourite TVB Drama awards, two brand new categories will be introduced: the My Favourite Variety Show Host award and the new Classic TVB Character award which honours one of many classic TVB drama characters dating back to the 1970s and 1980s with the likes of Master Chu 楚留香,Luk Siu Fung 陆小凤, Lok Lam 洛琳 and Fong Hei Man方希文.

“The support from the public has been truly overwhelming. With over half a million votes cast, this year’s response is double of last year’s record turnout,” said Ms Lee Soo Hui, Head of Media Business Unit, StarHub. “This year also marks the first time that we are broadcasting the Awards ceremony ‘live’, which allows our customers to experience the excitement as the winners are announced. We want to bring our customers closer to their favourite TVB stars and provide an immersive viewing experience for those watching at home. Hence, we are introducing innovative interactive elements such as ‘live’ voting for the best dressed Red Carpet Star and a home viewer’s call-in contest to give customers a deeper involvement in the Awards ceremony.”

This new level of interactivity is made possible by the StarHub TV Buddy second screen app. Available on iOS and Android devices, the app allows users to vote the best dressed TVB artiste for the Red Carpet Star award. Once the voting period has ended, the award will be presented right there and then to the winning TVB artiste at the Awards ceremony.

Viewers of the ‘live’ telecast of the StarHub TVB awards also stand to win an HTC One smartphone with up to 10 years' worth of StarHub mobile subscription. Two sets of numbers will appear on the top left corner of the TV screen during the ‘live’ telecast of the Awards. Once the hosts open up the contest hotline, the first viewer to call in with both sets of numbers will win the prize.

Back by popular demand and hosting the Awards ceremony for the third time is King Kong, who will be sharing hosting duties with Elaine Yiu. In addition, the list of over 20 TVB stars vying for accolades at the event includes Ruco Chan, Niki Chow, Linda Chung, Raymond Lam, Pauline Lan, Kenneth Ma, Kate Tsui, Bosco Wong, Tavia Yeung and Michelle Yim.

Viewers can also look forward to entertaining performances from the winning TVB artistes, the finalists of TVB’s latest hit reality singing competition The Voice of the Stars and a xinyao medley by the cast of the local movie That Girl in Pinafore.
