Singapore, 30 November 2010 – StarHub reaffirmed its commitment to the development of local sporting talent by investing in the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) Official Partnership Programme. Through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed today, StarHub will provide S$800,000 over two years in cash and kind to support Singapore sports.

The MOU will see StarHub and SNOC partnering to raise the profile of the Olympic movement and create general interest for sports in the country and the major games that the Singapore team will participate in.

StarHub's initiative follows its launch of SuperSports Arena in February this year, which aimed to provide a platform for the broadcast and promotion of local sports. SuperSports Arena is a complimentary sports channel made available to all StarHub TV customers.

Mr Tan Tong Hai, Chief Operating Officer of StarHub, said, "StarHub is a home-grown info-communications and entertainment company, and we want to contribute towards Singapore's quest for sporting excellence. The universal language of sports brings local communities together, and through sport, young people learn values such as teamwork, integrity, commitment and respect for others. We are pleased to invest in the SNOC Official Partnership Programme to build a vibrant sporting culture in Singapore."

"StarHub's investment is well aligned with our efforts to excite audiences with our strong portfolio of compelling sports programmes. The comprehensive showcase of international and local sporting events on our channels, like the Asian Games, will help spur greater interest towards such events among the local community," Mr Tan added.

Mr Ng Ser Miang, Vice President of SNOC, said, "We would like to thank StarHub for their contribution to local sports. StarHub's sponsorship initiative announced today recognises the value that sports can bring to Singapore, and will be a tremendous boost to local sports. I am confident that it will empower and motivate our athletes to push the cause of their respective sports and bring glory to Singapore in the international sporting arena."

Seven young Singapore athletes: Tao Li (Swimming), Jasmine Ser (Shooting), Sherman Cheng (Sailing), Justin Liu (Sailing), New Hui Fen (Bowling), Shinta Mulia Sari (Badminton) and Yao Lei (Badminton) have been selected as Partner Athletes under the SNOC Official Partnership Programme, whereby StarHub and SNOC will develop programmes with the athletes as role models to inspire youth and promote sports.

StarHub will also sponsor StarHub Mobile, cable TV and broadband services for the seven selected athletes, to enable them to stay in touch with their loved ones, keep up-to-date on international sporting news, and share their experiences as sports personalities via StarHub's full range of information, communications and entertainment services.
