StarHub And TVB Artistes Spread Festive Cheer To Underprivileged
Singapore, 30 January 2010 – Some 60 intellectually disabled youths at the Moral Home for Disabled received a special treat this afternoon when StarHub employees and TVB artistes from Hong Kong - Nancy Sit (薛家燕), Steven Ma (马浚伟) and Sonija Kwok (郭羨妮) visited the Home to celebrate an early Lunar New Year with the young residents.
“We are delighted to partner TVB to spread cheer to the less fortunate this festive season as we sincerely believe in corporate philanthropy and seek to contribute not only monetarily towards charitable causes, but also by participating actively in volunteerism activities. It warms our hearts to see the happy faces of the residents as they recognise and acknowledge their favourite TVB artistes,” said Ms Jeannie Ong, StarHub’s Head of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations.
All the youths received gifts personally presented to them by the TVB artistes, and indulged in an afternoon of festivities and a sumptuous buffet spread.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year, StarHub made a contribution of an auspicious $88,888 from the StarHub Sparks Fund towards the Home’s Occupational Therapy programmes that reinforce vocational skills and help the intellectually disabled residents develop their independence.
The Moral Home for Disabled was established by Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society in 1989 to give shelter, warmth, care and love to young adults with intellectual disabilities, in particular to those without parental support or whose parents cannot support them.
Since StarHub was established in 2000, the company has donated some $6 million to help the less fortunate.
