Singapore, 27 January 2010 – StarHub today announced a bumper crop of treats for all customers in celebration of the Lunar New Year! StarHub TV customers will be able to enjoy a free viewing of over 100 channels from noon on New Year’s eve till midnight on the second day of the New Year, while all viewers in Singapore, regardless of whether they are customers of StarHub's cable TV service, will be able to savour a free preview of Chinese blockbusters for two weeks.

To pack the New Year with even more entertainment, StarHub will launch four exciting channels – FOX (Channel 132) featuring US TV series; Nat Geo Music (Channel 131) showcasing profiles of world musicians; Korea’s leading general entertainment channel tvN (Channel 175), and the only 24-hour Chinese travel channel, Asia Travel (Channel 104). StarHub customers will also have a chance to meet and greet their favourite TVB artistes at the StarHub TVB Awards gala event and StarHub’s festive celebrations at Plaza Singapura.

StarHub and TVB will present the StarHub TVB Awards gala event at the Ritz Carlton Singapore on 29 January 2010. Top-notch TVB artistes, including Raymond Lam, Charmaine Sheh, Moses Chan and Susanna Kwan are expected to grace the event, which marks the culmination of a two-month long campaign whereby local fans were invited to nominate and vote for their favourite TVB artistes online and via SMS. The StarHub TVB Awards will be attended by over 500 guests comprising StarHub’s customers and corporate clients, and fans of TVB productions.

StarHub and TVB have also jointly arranged for popular TVB artistes – Moses Chan, Nancy Sit, Sonija Kwok and Steven Ma to meet and greet their fans at StarHub’s festive celebrations held at Plaza Singapura from 2pm on 30 and 31 January.

The events are symbolic of the close partnership that has brought StarHub TV customers compelling TVB programmes for over a decade. Together, StarHub and TVB have offered viewers in Singapore a variety of TVB-produced news, drama series and variety shows that are aired on a total of seven channels and via StarHub’s Demand TV.

In partnership with FOX International Channels (FIC), StarHub will launch three new channels on StarHub TV under the FIC umbrella at 6am on 1 February. The new channels - FOX (Channel 132), Nat Geo Music (Channel 131) and tvN (Channel 175) will initially be made available free to all StarHub TV subscribers via the respective channels for a month, from 1 to 28 February.

FOX dominates the top ranking across Japan, Korea, the Middle East, US, Latin America, Spain and some other markets as the world’s number one US TV series channel. The channel brings to viewers the most recent US TV first-runs in comedy, drama, science fiction, action, animation and reality.

Nat Geo Music is a unique channel profiling world musicians and their passion for music and world cultures. The channel features seasoned artists, emerging talents and their famous anthems.

tvN, or Total Variety Network, is Korea’s leading general entertainment channel with its exclusive high-rated programming in self-produced dramas, entertainment, reality and lifestyle programmes. Programmes on tvN are aired with Chinese subtitles.

StarHub invites viewers to trek the globe with launch of Asia Travel

StarHub will also launch a new travel channel – Asia Travel (Channel 104) at 6am on 12 February. Asia Travel is the only 24-hour Chinese channel dedicated to travel programming, and features interesting tourist locales around the world, with an emphasis on attractions in China and Taiwan.

“We are delighted to offer Asia Travel which will serve as an in-home getaway for avid travelers. China and Taiwan are popular travel destinations among Singaporeans as both countries are close to home and steeped in culture. In addition, many viewers in Singapore relate to Taiwanese popular culture and love the country’s fashion, food and music trends. We are confident that Asia Travel, with its focus on China and Taiwan, will be popular among our Chinese audience segment,” said Ms Ong.

To give viewers a taste of Asia Travel, StarHub will offer a two-week free preview of the channel to all StarHub TV customers from 12 February to 28 February. Customers simply need to tune in to Channel 104 to enjoy the free preview.

FOX will be added to the StarHub TV’s Entertainment Basic Group; Nat Geo Music will be added to the Education Basic Upsize group; tvN will be added to the Chinese Entertainment Basic Upsize Group; and Asia Travel will be added to StarHub TV’s Chinese Infotainment Basic Upsize Group at no additional cost to subscribers of the respective Groups.

Existing StarHub TV customers who wish to enjoy the new channels may upgrade to the respective groups. Customers enjoy any three StarHub TV Basic and Basic Upsize Groups for an affordable $29 ($31.03 with GST).

StarHub TV customers can call 1633 to subscribe to any Groups, while new customers who wish to subscribe to StarHub TV can call 1630. Viewers can refer to the On-screen TV Guide or StarHub’s Online Programme Guide for the latest schedule of the new channels.

Two-week free preview of exciting Chinese content for all

In celebration of the Lunar New Year festive season, StarHub will offer an islandwide free preview of Chinese blockbusters and entertainment programmes to all viewers in Singapore, regardless of whether they are customers of StarHub's cable TV service.

The preview will be made available on StarHub’s Preview Channel, Channel 01, from 8am on 12 February to 28 February, and viewers can enjoy a delectable selection of programmes from 11 of StarHub’s Chinese-language movie and entertainment channels. On 28 February, viewers may tune in to Preview Channel to sample the first episodes of the latest and top-rated serials available on Demand TV – “Beyond The Realm Of Conscience” and “The Stew Of Life” by TVB, the Korean dramas “Brilliant Legacy” and ”Queen Seon Deok”, and Taiwanese idol dramas ”Hi, My Sweetheart” and “Autumn’s Concerto”.

The channels that will be made available to viewers via StarHub’s Preview Channel on a daily rotational basis include STAR CHINESE CHANNEL (Channel 46), CCTV-4 (Channel 47), TVBS-News (Channel 49), CTI TV (Channel 52), TVB8 (Channel 53), TVBS Asia (Channel 54), VV Drama (Channel 55), E City (Channel 56), JET TV (Channel 57), CHANNEL [V] TAIWAN (Channel 102) and TVB Classic Channel (Channel 108).

Details of the free preview, including a schedule of the channels on preview are available from 28 January online. StarHub TV customers simply need to tune in to Channel 01 to view the programmes, while non-subscribers can enjoy the preview by tuning their TV sets manually to UHF 527.25 Mhz.

Mega bonus for StarHub TV customers - 60-hour round-the-clock free viewing for all StarHub TV channels to welcome the year of the Tiger

StarHub TV customers have even more reasons to celebrate as StarHub will be offering customers a festive bonus of 60-hour round-the-clock free viewing for all (over 100) channels, including High Definition (HD) channels2, over the Lunar New Year period, from 12 noon on 13 February to midnight on 15 February.

Some programmes that viewers can tune into include “Glee” on STAR World, “Quantum Of Solace” on STAR Movies, “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” on HBO, “SUPER STAR” on E City, “StarHub TVB Awards” on VV Drama and “Hana-Kimi Special” on E City.

Bountiful harvest of up to $30,000 in cash prizes up for grabs!

StarHub will wrap up its string of treats by offering StarHub TV customers the chance to win a bountiful harvest of up to $30,000 in cash prizes. Customers simply need to paste a StarHub “prosperity” ( ) sticker on their front doors between 23 January and 28 February and get spotted to win.
