- Sports Free Preview for all viewers in Singapore from 8 to 23 August -

Singapore , 31 July 2009 – This August is going to be an exciting month for all sports fans! StarHub announced today that it will be, for the first time ever, airing 370 ‘live’ Barclays Premier League (BPL) matches and 138 of these matches are available in High Definition (HD) too this coming season. In addition, all viewers in Singapore will be treated to a free preview of sports channels on StarHub TV from 8 to 23 August 2009.

For the previous BPL season, StarHub TV aired some of the 370 matches on a same-day delayed basis and only 92 of the ‘live’ matches were available in HD.

When the new BPL season kicks off on 15 August, StarHub TV Sports Group customers can catch up to 10 ‘live’ matches weekly via Football Channel (Channel 27), SuperSports (Channel 22), SuperSports Plus (Channel 21), Channel 118, Channel 119 and Channel 120. To provide a complete viewing experience, StarHub TV will also introduce enhancements to eTV (enhanced TV) in the near future to allow football fans to watch up to six ‘live’ BPL matches simultaneously on a single TV screen. StarHub Mobile post-paid and MaxOnline customers who are also StarHub TV Sports Group customers can also catch selected 'live' BPL games for free on StarHub TV on Mobile and StarHub TV Online respectively.

StarHub will also extend some of the action to those who have yet to subscribe to its pay TV service. Non-subscribers of StarHub TV can catch a variety of sports including badminton, golf, tennis and football on StarHub’s Preview Channel (Channel 01) for free! The channels participating in this free preview are Football Channel, Golf Channel, Goal TV 1, Goal TV 2 and SuperSports. The Preview Channel will run 24 hours daily for the period of the free preview, with a ‘live’ feed extracted from these six StarHub TV sports channels.

“Being the leading pay TV operator in Singapore, we currently offer 18 dedicated sports channels. With the free preview, we hope to give all viewers in Singapore the opportunity to experience the wide array of sports programmes on StarHub TV,” said Ms Ong Bee Lian, StarHub’s Vice President of Home Solutions.

She added, “Besides the free preview, we are also excited to offer 370 ‘live’ BPL matches and 138 of them will also be available in HD. No matter which football club our customers support, they can now catch their favourite teams in action ‘live’!”  

During the free preview, some of the major sports events not to be missed include the kick-off of German Bundesliga 09/10 and BPL 09/10 on 8 August and 15 August respectively. Viewers can also catch the ‘live’ telecasts of Bridgestone Invitational (USPGA) and BWF World Championship. 

Existing subscribers of StarHub TV can enjoy the Preview Channel on Channel 01, while non-subscribers can tune their TV sets manually to UHF 527.25 Mhz. The manual tuning-in procedures will vary according to different TV set models, and viewers are advised to refer to their TV operating manuals for specific tuning instructions.

The generic tuning-in procedures are:

  • Select an unused channel on the TV unit.
  • Press the TUNNING button on the TV remote control or at the front panel of the TV unit, commonly labeled as [PRESET], [INSTALL], [SET], [P/C] or [MENU>TUNE>MANUAL]. If the TV unit does not have any of these buttons, please refer to the TV manual.
  • Start tuning by pressing or selecting the VOLUME +/- button or the CHANNEL UP/DOWN button on the TV remote control until the Free Preview channel appears on the screen.
  • Next, press the STORE or MEM button on the TV remote control to store the tuning.
  • Press the MENU or PRESET button to end or exit the tuning procedure.
