15 April 2009

Singapore, 15 April 2009 – StarHub today announced that it will launch one-click easy access to ‘live’ business news from CNN, CNBC, and CNA, as well as a new data plan for BlackBerry users on 18 April 2009.

The business news channels are part of the StarHub TV on Mobile offering. This service not only allows StarHub’s BlackBerry customers to catch the latest international and local business news, on CNN, CNBC and CNA, but also ‘live’ soccer matches such as the Barclays Premier League on the Football Channel over the latest 3.5G BlackBerry phones. Customers can get these channels for only $1 a day from 18 April 2009. Those who are on StarHub TV with a Sports Tier subscription plan can stream all the channels for free.

StarHub will also start offering a new mobile data plan – “BlackBerry Premium” – from 18 April 2009. Specially packaged for individuals, entrepreneurs and professionals, it allows customers to enjoy 1GB of free bundled data at $19.90 monthly. BlackBerry users can have access to a full range of mobile data services including email, Internet, instant messaging services and social networking applications, over StarHub’s advanced mobile broadband network.

Continuing StarHub’s pricing innovations that ensure our customers would not get a bill shock for mobile data usage, the data plan has a price cap at $36.38 regardless of the amount of data used locally. This permits customers to access data from their BlackBerry devices freely and constantly without worrying about sky-high data charges as they will at most pay up to the price cap for data usage.

With their BlackBerry plan, customers will also receive two financial applications soon through the BlackBerry push-based technology – “pushStock” and “Wall Street Journal Mobile Reader”.

“pushStock” gives quick and easy access to stock information from the Singapore Exchange for free. Users are able to customise their own watch lists of stocks that are relevant to them for close tracking. On the other hand, “Wall Street Journal Mobile Reader” which is developed for BlackBerry users, delivers local market coverage in Asia and free US stock quotes in real-time. It also includes Chinese-language news from the Chinese Wall Street Journal. Updates on critical news, market moves, and in-depth analysis of global events are automatically pushed to the BlackBerry device.

Mr Chan Kin Hung, Head of Personal Solutions and Advanced Multimedia Services at StarHub, said: "Push email has already become a way of life for many people in Singapore. To further enhance the mobile lifestyle of our customers, StarHub is offering one click access on BlackBerry 3.5G phones to 'live' news from CNN, CNBC and CNA, as well as exciting soccer channels at only $1 dollars per day.  With our new customer-friendly BlackBerry data plan that comes with a price cap, our customers can have peace of mind using StarHub’s BlackBerry and other mobile data services. With our exciting content delivered through our superior 3.5G mobile network,  we believe we offer the best push email experience in town!”
