Singapore, 27 June 2006 – As the world waits with bated breath for the 2006 FIFA World Cup champion to emerge, StarHub has scored its own victory by clinching multiple awards for its World Cup promotional campaign. StarHub bagged a total of nine awards - three Golds, four Silvers and two Bronzes, at the prestigious 2006 PROMAX & BDA World Gold Awards held in New York last week. To add icing to the cake, StarHub also picked up two awards at the Asia Image Apollo Awards 2006 in the same week, on 22 June 2006.

The PROMAX & BDA Awards recognise excellence in promotions, marketing, and design of electronic media, and are regarded as the highest accolades for professionals in the electronic and broadcast media industry. The entries submitted for the awards were judged on overall creativity, production quality, and results in achieving marketing objectives.

The Asia Image Apollo Awards acknowledge the best in broadcast, production, and post, and is Asia Pacific’s only regional Awards programme for craft and technical excellence.

StarHub’s “Where Legends Are Born” campaign has created a legend on its own by winning five awards - one Gold and three Silver awards at Promax & BDA World Gold, and won at Asia Image Apollo Awards 2006. The theme was conceptualised to capture the place the World Cup holds in the hearts of people around the world, and pays homage to the heroism and almost super human skills of top athletes in a graceful way.

“We are proud that our creative works are once again recognised at prestigious international and regional platforms. The World Cup is no ordinary soccer tournament, and we certainly wanted a special promotional campaign that centres around a unique and memorable theme. After some creative brainstorming, we decided to pay tribute to the World Cup legends that are born every four years,“ said Mr Du Da Sheng, Director of StarHub’s Multimedia Solutions Unit. 

Besides its World Cup promotions, StarHub’s promotional campaign for Spanish Primera Liga 2005 which captured the moments of devoted fans’ anticipation just before the kick-offs, also hit gold. Other accolades in the Sports category of the 2006 Promax & BDA World Gold Awards include the European PGA and ABF Bowling Cup promotions that walked away with Silver and Bronze awards respectively.

StarHub’s wins are not confined to its sports promotions. Its creative works for VV Drama (StarHub Digital Cable Channel 55), a channel wholly packaged by StarHub, also clinched three awards – a Gold and Bronze at the Promax & BDA World Gold Awards, and first runner-up for Best Single Programme at the Apollo Awards.
