·         StarHub’s SuperSports Channel Clinches Five Prestigious International Accolades, Making It Singapore’s Most “Decorated” Channel

·         SuperSports’ Latest Wins Lend Recognition To The Channel’s World-Class Quality

Singapore, 30 June 2005 – At the recent 2005 PROMAX & BDA World Awards, SuperSports (StarHub Digital Cable Channel 22) bagged a total of five awards – one Gold and four Silvers, thus achieving the distinction of being labeled as Singapore’s most-awarded local channel. SuperSports is a channel that is packaged entirely by StarHub.

The PROMAX & BDA Awards recognise excellence in promotions, marketing, and design of electronic media, and are regarded as the highest accolades for professionals in the electronic and broadcast media industry. The entries that are submitted for the awards are judged on overall creativity, production quality, and results in achieving marketing objectives.

StarHub scored a BDA Gold for its art direction and design for a topical promotional campaign on the ‘Italian Serie A 2004’. Unlike typical football promotions that screen footage of soccer players, this unique entry drew inspiration from a quintessential aspect of Italian culture – food. Unified by classic Italian music, this campaign featured Italian culinary icons like pasta, pizza and vegetables as metaphors for the fans and players in a soccer match.

Another entry that won the judges over was StarHub’s cheeky promotion for the Thomas & Uber Cup that featured geese being warned of the fate of their fine feathers. By playing on the fact that shuttlecocks are made using goose feathers, it clinched a BDA Silver for art direction and design for a topical promotion.

Other entries that impressed the judges and walked away with BDA Silvers include StarHub’s on-air illustration, and art direction and design for the French Open 2004, as well as StarHub’s SuperSports ID that portrayed a series of circular motifs which symbolise the portals to the world of SuperSports action.

SuperSports Channel’s slew of recent wins is a strong reflection of its world-class quality in terms of programming and content, where sports enthusiasts even have reason to stay glued to their television sets during commercial breaks. StarHub’s cable TV customers who relish the exciting sports action on SuperSports will also enjoy the unique and engaging promotional trailers that are aired on this channel.

Mr Toh Da Sheng, Director of StarHub's Multimedia Solutions Unit, said: "The awards acknowledge the high creative standards in Singapore's electronic and broadcast industry, and recognise that our local productions can definitely hold their ground in the international scene. For industry professionals like my team at StarHub, bagging a PROMAX&BDA award is akin to receiving an Oscar."

StarHub, Singapore’s innovative info-communications company, together with its international and regional channel partners, swept more than 70 awards at the prestigious event in New York – a testament to the high standard of production quality that viewers can expect from StarHub’s cable TV line-up.

These winning channels include AXN, Cartoon Network, Celestial Movies, Discovery Channel, Discovery Health, Hallmark Channel, MGM, MTV Asia, National Geographic Channel, Nickelodeon, Sony Entertainment Television, Star Chinese Movies, Star World and The Filipino Channel.
