Singapore, 29 July 2005 - StarHub, Singapore’s integrated info-communications provider, today introduced a unique home-to-office (Home2Office) broadband service for MNCs and SMEs that will help extend the office network to the home securely and easily via StarHub’s broadband cable network, starting from just S$50 per user per month (excluding GST).

This service comes bundled with complimentary cable modems for each teleworking employee, enabling greater overall cost-savings for businesses that are keen to take the fullest advantage of working from home. The service can also be packaged with Internet access at the office with access speeds of up to 2Mbps.

“Teleworking gives employees greater flexibility in balancing the need to  work with being close to their loved ones at home. It encourages them to be more productive by setting their own schedule and pace,” said Mr Alex Siow, Head of StarHub’s Business Markets. “With more companies becoming aware of these benefits, StarHub has consciously developed a unique solution that is easy to implement, secure and would result in greater cost-savings overall.”

The Home2Office service works through specially configured cable modems that connect from a standard cable point at the home to a company’s own local area network (LAN) directly. Desktop computers and/or notebooks connected via Home2Office have broadband access to their office intranet resources as well as controlled and managed access to the public Internet through the company’s own Internet connection. This means that employees are protected behind their company’s own LAN security infrastructure even as they work at home. This is in line with the IT security policies of many businesses in general.

“At present, companies that require home connectivity for 20 or more employees will be able to subscribe to this new service out of the box,” added Mr Siow. “Nevertheless, we will also be able to tailor our Home2Office service for businesses that require home-to-office connectivity with less than 20 users. These will be handled on a case-by-case basis, based on the specific  needs of the business.”

Companies must have a virtual private network (VPN) platform implemented for remote user authentication, and employees require a broadband coaxial cable point at home to access the Home2Office broadband service.

Concluded Mr Siow, “this new service, fast following our introduction of Free Internet Bandwidth for businesses, ably demonstrates StarHub’s commitment to innovation by delivering unique services to the business community in Singapore. We firmly believe in empowering our customers by giving them greater flexibility and choice in how their businesses can better operate with greater efficiency and cost savings.”
