Direct International Private Leased Circuit (IPLC) Link From Singapore to Batam/Bintan Launched As First Initiative This Year

Singapore, 3 June 2003 - StarHub, Singapore's leading info-communications provider and Indosat, Indonesia's primary provider of international telecommunications services, today announced a major tie-up aimed at improving enterprise-wide data services and connectivity for companies in Singapore and Indonesia. This agreement will allow both telcos to offer data services that are most demanded by companies over the next few years. This initiative is conducted under the auspices of Singapore Technologies Telemedia (ST Telemedia) which is the major shareholder for both companies.

"As the leading telco provider in Indonesia, Indosat has the infrastructure and capability to deliver services that are highly reliable and cost-effective," said Mr Mike Reynolds, Senior Vice President for StarHub Business Markets. "By pooling our resources and expertise, both companies can leverage each other's strengths to offer data solutions that companies demand in both countries."

"This cooperation is part of our continued efforts to offer high quality telecommunication services for customers in Indonesia. We hope our international high speed lines service between Batam - Bintan and Singapore will support telecommunications requirements among corporate customers to enhance economic developments in Batam - Bintan," said Mr Junino Jahja, Director, Multimedia, Data Communication & Internet of Indosat.

This agreement follows a similar arrangement between Indosat-owned Satelindo and StarHub for connectivity between StarHub's Global IP Transit Services and Satelindo's satellite network in April 2003.

Direct IPLC Link Between Singapore to Batam-Bintan

A direct IPLC link between Singapore, Batam and Bintan has been launched as a maiden project between StarHub and Indosat. This service provides companies with larger bandwidth and higher quality transmission capabilities needed to meet the exponential growth expected in broadband and multimedia telecommunications services.

The StarHub-Indosat IPLC service is targeted at the manufacturing and hospitality sectors and is used for high-speed internet access, business data exchange, video conferencing and other forms of telecommunication services. Batam and Bintan serve as a locus for over 100 companies that use IPLC to directly connect to Singapore.

"We see the demand for bandwidth rapidly increasing between Singapore and Indonesia as both countries continue to develop co-operative agreements. With this IPLC link to Batam and Bintan, StarHub is gradually expanding our IPLC coverage following our investments in APCN2 and other international submarine cable system," said Mr Reynolds.
