Appointment Effective 1 March 2003

 

Singapore, 27 January 2003 – StarHub, Singapore’s leading info-communications provider, today announced the appointment of Mr Alex Siow as Vice President for Strategic Relations & Government Affairs. This appointment will take effect 1 March 2003. Alex will report directly to Mr Terry Clontz, President & CEO of StarHub.

Alex has had a distinguished career spanning 23 years at Singapore’s Housing and Development Board, of which he spent 13 years as its Chief Information Officer. We strongly believe that his industry experience, knowledge and broad management experience will be highly relevant to StarHub’s strategic direction in the coming years," said Mr Clontz.

 

Widely acknowledged as a leading light in the IT industry, Alex was nominated by Computerworld as one of the top 10 most powerful IT personalities in Singapore in 1995 and IT Person of the Year 2002 by the Singapore Computer Society. He was conferred the Public Administration Medal Bronze award in 1993 and Silver award in 2000. Alex also serves as:

  • Chairman, National Infocomm Competency Centre;
  • Chairman, e-Learning Chapter of the SITF (Singapore IT Federation);
  • Assistant Secretary General, Asia ICT Confederation; and
  • President, Singapore Chapter of Project Management Institute.

Also an adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing, Alex serves on the boards of the Institute of Systems Science, Commercial & Industrial Security Corporation (CISCO), and the Information Communication Institute of Singapore, NTU. In addition, Alex sits on the National Internet Advisory Committee and the National Grid Steering Committee. At the grassroots level, Alex serves as Vice-Chairman of the Aljunied-Kembangan Citizen’s Consultative Committee and Chairman of the Aljunied-Kembangan Bursary and Welfare Committee. Currently he is a Lieutenant Colonel in SAF Reserve. Alex was the past president of the Singapore Computer Society and a former Board Member of the National Computer Board (now known as IDA).

Alex holds a B.Eng (Civil), 1979, from Stuttgart Institute of Technology (Germany); M.Sc. (Eng) Distinction, 1986, University of Birmingham (UK); and graduated from INSEAD, Fontainebleau (FRANCE) Senior Management Programme in 1991.

 

Married with two children, Alex is 48 years old and enjoys IT and more IT during his spare time. He also enjoys golf, bowling, reading, writing and singing.
