A Full Suite Of Mobile Data Services That Let Consumers "Be Spontaneous!"

Singapore, 6 December 2001 -- StarHub, Singapore's innovative info-communications provider, today announced the launch of Gee! – a full suite of mobile data services that runs on its GPRS network. Gee! will be available from tomorrow and allows customers to experience GPRS roaming, which is on commercial trial*, with operators in Thailand, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

Put the Gee! in the GPRS network. Gee! lets our customers send and receive emails with their GPRS-enabled mobile phones wherever they may be. It also gives them instant access to the latest news, information and provides Internet access via their mobile phones, PDAs and notebooks. Trading shares and purchasing tickets via their mobile devices will be a breeze. For corporate customers, they can enhance their productivity with our Corporate Messaging and Groupware solutions.

Customers accessing Gee! via our GPRS network can expect instant access without the need to dial-up and also constant connection where they can continue to receive voice calls while accessing data. Running on GPRS also means that they only pay for what they use, thus enjoying cost-savings as well.

"StarHub has been working closely with our partner, Nokia, to test out the GPRS network with various GPRS-enabled terminals. We have also been working closely with leading industry names to develop mobile data applications. This is to ensure that the first time our customer access Gee! through his GPRS-enabled device, the right customer experience is delivered," said Mr Chan Kin Hung, Vice President, StarHub Mobile.

StarHub has worked hard to ensure that the right customer experience is delivered. For example, it has implemented an innovative "Over-The-Air" configuration feature for its customers. All they need to do is ask for it via the StarHub website and an SMS will be sent to their phone, which they just need to accept to configure their phones automatically without any complicated steps to follow.

Mr Chan added, "Accessing Gee! on our GPRS network will allow our customers to benefit from the "always on" feature, economical packetised billing, quicker access and connection speeds. Furthermore, with our recent announcements to provide corporate mobile data applications like Corporate Messaging and Groupware, coupled with GPRS roaming, these applications will definitely appeal to our business customers."

Another enticing proposition for business customers is for them to sign up for our Gee! DataPack – a first-in-market service – that does not require any voice plan subscription. This service is specially targeted at those who want a dedicated line for data-centric use only.

In recent weeks, StarHub has aggressively signed up with many leading companies like IBM, Peramon and REALVision. Teaming up with IBM will allow our business customers to access their Lotus applications instantly. Peramon offers our customers access either to Lotus or Microsoft Exchange applications, and finally, REALVision offers access to their Mobile Inspect applications, targeted at the construction and property industries.

The new Gee! service plans will be available at two StarHub shops (situated at StarHub Centre and OUB Centre). There is a registration fee of $10 and a charge of 0.5 cents per kilobyte for downloaded data (see ANNEX for more details.)
