More Flexible and Cost-Effective Solutions For Broadband Content Providers

23 October 2000, Singapore -- Aspiring broadband content service providers, Application Service Providers and ATM wire-line customers who need high-speed connections to Singapore-ONE, Singapore’s nationwide broadband network, can now get a more flexible, cost-effective and simpler solution from StarHub for their bandwidth connections.

This was announced today through a joint agreement between StarHub, Singapore’s new info-communication player, and 1-Net Singapore, who operates the infrastructure for Singapore-ONE (One Network for Everybody) and provides broadband and Internet connectivity for e-businesses.

Through this agreement, StarHub offers direct Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) port connections of 2 Mbps and 34Mbps in addition to standard industry packages of 45 Mbps and 155 Mbps. These lower port connections are not currently offered but is in demand from smaller customers. This wider range of bandwidth packages allows customers the flexibility to start from a lower base and scale up to a higher bandwidth when the need arises, while enjoying competitive multi-tier pricing schemes by selecting the category of bandwidth they prefer on a certain port size, another option currently not available.

The connection process is further simplified by the ‘one-stop bundle’ service provided by StarHub and 1-Net - StarHub will bundle the local access line with the ATM port services to offer customers access to a multitude of services including:

  • End-to-end ATM connection linking the company’s network of domestic offices;
  • High-speed ATM connections to international locations;
  • Direct high-speed access to StarHub Internet.

"As Singapore moves closer to its goal of becoming a regional broadband hub, there is a need to make such solutions easily available to business customers to help them become more competitive and effective in establishing their e-businesses in the local market as well as the region. Through this partnership, we will be able to help business customers better manage the costs associated with gaining access to Singapore ONE’s broadband network," says Mr Richard Lee, Vice President, Business Markets, StarHub.

"As the broadband exchange of Singapore, this agreement will provide our customers an even wider range of bandwidth connection packages. Furthermore, both 1-Net and StarHub customers will enjoy and benefit from the seamless interconnection between the two networks," says Mr Gregory Chia, Chief Operating Officer, 1-Net Singapore.

Mr. Lee adds, "We anticipate that StarHub’s partnership with 1-Net will further encourage the growth of new content providers, which will add to the range and diversity of content and applications for Singapore ONE users and strengthen Singapore's position as a regional broadband hub."
