Singapore, 15 March 2000 -- StarHub and M1 have signed an interconnection agreement today to permit the direct transmission of call traffic between the two operators’ networks. This agreement will allow both operators’ mobile phone users to be able to call one another over a direct interconnection that has been vigorously and comprehensively tested to ensure a high level of quality and reliability.

The interconnection agreement marks the beginning of a strong relationship between the two operators. Beyond direct transmission of local call traffic, the agreement will also form the basis to enable M1 subscribers direct access to StarHub’s telephony services such as StarHub’s international dialing access code 008 services from 1 April 2000.

"StarHub is committed to provide consumers with value-added services and choices. From April 1, StarHub is pleased to offer our IDD 008 services as one of many quality choices available to all in Singapore," said Mr John Poston, Senior Vice President (International & Wholesale) at StarHub.

Mr Poston added, "With today’s agreement with M1, this signals the beginning of upcoming joint programmes between our two companies to benefit our customers. We are very optimistic that the partnership with M1 will go a long way to offering greater choice and value."

"We are happy with the outcome of this agreement which was negotiated by both parties in a good spirit of co-operation. It provides for a direct and efficient interconnection with StarHub and also establishes a framework for future co-operation. M1 welcomes further liberalisation of the market and M1 customers can expect an even wider range of products and services in the future," said Mr Neil Montefiore, Chief Executive Officer of M1.
