14 June 2000, Singapore -- Mr Terry Clontz, President and CEO of StarHub Pte Ltd, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Kyong Yu as General Manager of StarHub Internet Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of StarHub, with effect from 15 June 2000. In his new position, Mr Yu will be responsible for mapping the StarHub Internet's strategic direction, marketing strategies and operations to further the company’s position as the preferred Internet Service Provider of Singapore. 

 

Mr Yu, a Korean American, 39, is a veteran in the information technology and e-commerce industry with 16 years of working experience in both the United States and Singapore. After graduating from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, he started his career in IBM, covering a variety of positions including systems analysis and IT operations management. Six years later, Mr Yu joined Keane, Inc., an American IT consultancy as an IT manager to help renowned technology clients to orchestrate, design and implement their IT projects in several countries, including the US and the United Kingdom.

 

Mr Yu leveraged his entrepreneurial abilities to set up his own IT company in Dallas, Texas, with the help of several partners. He built the 15-person start-up operation to become a 100-person strong firm of today with an annual revenue turnover of US$15 million. In a two-year period, he was instrumental to developing the company’s strong network of international strategic alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, such as Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong SAR and South Korea. In that short time, Mr Yu successfully championed his company to launch its initial public offer and becoming listed on the NASDAQ.

Prior to joining StarHub Internet, Mr Yu was most recently the Singapore-based regional director of R&D for Sterling Commerce, a US-based e-commerce solutions company. During his three-year tenure, Mr Yu expanded Sterling Commerce’s business portfolio by creating the company’s first Internet B-to-B e-commerce solution set that contributed to more than a two-fold and three-fold increase in product and services revenues respectively. He was also instrumental in building this new line of business to propel Sterling Commerce into attaining the No. 1 ranking as a B-to-B Internet application provider in Asia in 1999, beating both Netscape and IBM.
