StarHub iPower WAP Users Able To Have Instant Access On Health Tips

Singapore, 26 July 2000 -- Parkway Group Healthcare, Asia’s largest premier regional healthcare group and StarHub, Singapore's new info-communications service provider, announced a tie-up to provide health services for StarHub Mobile subscribers today. All new and existing StarHub Mobile subscribers will have, for free, a range of attractive health screening packages to choose from. Furthermore, StarHub iPower WAP users can get healthtips and medical information instantly on their WAP-enabled handsets. These services will be introduced soon.

With the national emphasis on healthcare and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, StarHub is setting an example in the private sector by providing health services for its subscribers.

Commenting on this collaboration with StarHub, Mrs Tan-Hoong Chu Eng, General Manager, Corporate Marketing & Corporate Communications, Parkway Group Healthcare said, "This teaming–up is in line with the national call for health checks to be done early in order to identify serious illnesses early. Preventive health care is now the buzzword. Health screen programmes are part and parcel of preventive health care."

Said Mr Wee Way Kiat, General Manager, Mobility, StarHub, "StarHub is delighted to be able to provide value to our StarHub customers through this tie-up with Parkway Group Healthcare. We believe StarHub customers will find the free healthcare screening packages attractive and useful in maintaining a healthy lifestyle."

Free Health Screen Packages

StarHub Mobile subscribers will have a choice of attractive health screen packages. Subscribers may opt for dental cleansing, menopausal blood screen, male hormone blood screen or PSA (a test for prostate cancer). Alternatively, they may choose other health screen packages.

Instant access to healthcare tips

StarHub is also working closely with Parkway Group Healthcare to deliver WAP applications to all StarHub iPower users. In fact, a healthcare directory on StarHub’s WAP portal will be available for its iPower subscribers soon. The directory includes healthcare information such as health tips, health events and other medical information. With this directory, StarHub iPower subscribers will be able to keep abreast of the latest in the healthcare arena.

One-touch speed dial

A quick dial function in all new mobile phones allows StarHub subscribers access to the Medical Referral Centre (MRC: 755 2000) at a touch of a button. MRC personnel will:

  • Answer enquiries on Parkway’s hospitals’ facilities and services;
  • Arrange medical appointment;
  • Co-ordinate local ambulance services; and
  • Co-ordinate overseas medical evacuation

Parkway Group Healthcare and StarHub are also sponsors for "Relay for Life"; a fund-raising event organized by Singapore Cancer Society. This 12-hour event will be held overnight from 29 July to 30 July 2000 (8 pm to 8 am) at the NUS Sports & Recreation Centre (Athletics Track). As the main sponsor and official organizer of the health fair at this event, Parkway Group Healthcare will exhibit rehabilitative services and provide healthcare screening. StarHub will be sending at least three teams of ten members each to take part in Singapore's first 12-hour overnight team relay cum carnival under the stars.
