Singapore, 6 September 1999 -- Mr Terry Clontz, President & CEO of StarHub, is pleased to announce the following appointments of Mr Peter Kaliaropoulos as Senior Vice President for Commercial and Service and Mr John Poston as Senior Vice President for International and Wholesale. Their appointments will be with immediate effect.

 

Mr Kaliaropoulos takes over from Mr Graham Moore, who has returned to United Kingdom with to rejoin British Telecommunications (BT). His departure is attributed to due to health reasons. As Senior Vice President, Commercial & Service, Mr Kaliaropoulos will oversee StarHub`s marketing, sales and customer service operations as well as product development.

 

Mr Kaliaropoulos brings with him close to 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and IT industry. A secondee from British Telecom, Mr Kaliaropoulos has been with BT for four years. Most recently, as the Regional Director of Sales for BT Worldwide Strategic Markets, he developed and led a successful, multicultural sales and customer care team across Asia-Pacific, India, Middle East and Africa, offering Concert and BT global network solutions to multinational and regional customers.

 

Prior to that, he was the General Manager for BT Syncordia Services, and was responsible for the growth of BT`s professional services, facilities management and outsourcing business across Asia Pacific. Before joining BT, Mr Kaliaropoulos was with Telstra as its General Manager, MNC Sales and Service for Asia Pacific. Over the years, he has lived and worked across Asia Pacific and the US and has also been involved in establishing communications companies in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand, and has also served on the boards of a number of small information technology and telecommunications start-up companies.

 

Mr Poston recently retired from BT to join StarHub. He will take charge of the international carrier and wholesale services for StarHub. In his current capacity, he will be responsible for product development, carrier services, business planning and development, international network planning, as well as the development of the wholesale market which will focus on developing business with other carriers and service providers who see Singapore as a major hub for MNC customers.

 

A veteran in the telecommunications industry, Mr Poston was with BT since 1986. His last held position with BT was as the Director of International Carrier Services Asia Pacific, a position he held from 1995 to 1999. He was responsible for the relations with international carriers in the Asia Pacific region, including incoming (to UK) correspondent business of BT in Asia Pacific for supporting outbound business, and growing the transit business more than five-fold.

 

During his career with BT, Mr Poston started as Marketing Director, Overseas Division where he successfully created a BT presence in targetted overseas markets, including various parts of Asia. For 13 years, Mr Poston played a key role in setting up the Asia Pacific and Overseas divisions within the organisation. From 1991 to 1995, as Regional Sales Director, Asia Pacific, Mr Poston created a successful sales team of more than 150 people across the region, and succeeded in initiating and driving through a programme for growth of BT`s Concert Network.
