Singapore, 21 June 1999 -- Soon after its corporate identity launch, Singapore`s newest info-communications company, StarHub, today signed on a strategic partner, premier consumer bank, Overseas Union Bank (OUB). The strategic collaboration between the two organisations focuses on the joint development and marketing of mobile banking services and a co-brand loyalty card for a consumer affinity programme. OUB will be the first bank to work closely with StarHub to bring personalised value-added mobile banking services and co-brand loyalty card programmes to the consumer market.

StarHub Chief Executive Officer, Terry Clontz, and OUB President and Chief Executive Officer, Peter Seah, sealed the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the StarHub booth at CommunicAsia99, the region`s foremost technology and telecommunications trade show.

Mr Clontz said, "Communications and banking are two of the most rapidly changing industries in the world, where technology, regulation and competition are transforming businesses to the benefit of the consumer. It is natural to expect that there are great opportunities for those companies that rise to the challenges in these dynamic times. So we are pleased to be working co-operatively with OUB, who shares our commitment to bring innovative and useful services to our customers."

With this partnership, StarHub and OUB will combine strengths and expertise to package value-added products and use modern, yet simple, technology for the benefit of consumers. The OUB-StarHub co-brand cards will integrate banking and telecommunications facilities and reward customer loyalty through special privileges. Cardholders will enjoy wider and more varied benefits and conveniences, including international acceptance, OUB`s superlative credit card and global debit cardmember banking privileges and StarHub`s suite of info-communications services that are to be announced in due course.
The OUB-StarHub mobile banking service will leverage on OUB`s long experience in phone banking and StarHub`s new integrated and state-of-the-art info-communications network to provide innovative mobile banking solutions tailored to different lifestyle needs. The new mobile banking service will complement and enhance OUB`s PhoneBanking service, which was launched in February this year, making it even more superior. Details of the mobile banking services and co-brand card loyalty programmes will be announced at a later date.

Collectively, these services will also reinforce the shared corporate vision and values of StarHub and OUB - to anticipate and exceed the expectations of consumers by providing quality service, competitive pricing and innovative solutions which are personalised to customer needs. Both organisations will be conducting extensive market research to fully understand the needs and lifestyles of today`s consumers. The research will also actively enlist the consumer in the process of developing and defining services of their choice.

Mr Seah said, "We are happy to be in this partnership as it brings together two like-minded organisations which are focused on anticipating and meeting the needs of the modern consumer. With this partnership, we aim to provide a more complete and more personalised customer experience. We hope that with the StarHub-OUB experience, seamless delivery of total banking and info-communications solutions and services for the modern consumer will become a practical reality. We are also confident that this partnership will enable OUB and StarHub to establish a leading edge in the fast-changing banking and info-communications environment."
