Singapore, 18 June 1999 -- StarHub Pte Ltd, Singapore`s new fixed line and mobile phone services operator that is due to commence operation in April 2000, unveiled its corporate identity and launched its corporate website, www. starhub.com.sg today, amidst much fanfare.

 

In a ceremony that was attended by close to 700 guests, Mr Terry Clontz, CEO of StarHub said that StarHub will bring a refreshing choice of communications services to both businesses and consumers when it arrives in April next year.

 

Commenting on its logo, Mr Clontz said, "Our corporate identity embodies the essence of a Chinese proverb, which when translated means, ‘green is derived from blue and green will become more brilliant than blue’. In short, the pupil shall surpass the teacher." Like the star depicted in its corporate identity, StarHub represents a new generation info-communications company whose arrival will transform the industry with its new and bold ways.

 

He further added, "StarHub`s corporate identity is an expression of our intention to be a totally innovative company offering creatively packaged solutions that will open up a whole new world of choices in info-communications for Singaporeans. We do not intend to be just another traditional telephone company. In fact, we intend to surprise our customers by the way we listen to them. Instead of just selling them individual products, we will package and integrate them to suit their individual communication needs."

 

StarHub which has identified more than S$100 million worth of prospects, has been actively visiting corporations and talking to them about their communication requirements and how StarHub can offer them better solutions to help meet those requirements. Many of these companies were present at the identity launch event.

 

StarHub is investing S$2.6 billion into its infrastructure for its fixed and mobile services. With the benefit of a superior network which boasts the latest leading edge technologies, and a strong parentage that is made up of two of Singapore’s largest corporations : Singapore Technologies Telemedia and Singapore Power, with two of the world’s leading telecommunication players: Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp and British Telecom; StarHub will be able to tap into the wealth of local and worldwide expertise from its shareholders to offer its customers a full array of world class communication services and solutions.

 

In conjunction with the unveiling of the corporate identity, StarHub also launched its corporate website the same evening. Commenting on the website, Mr Clontz said, "Our corporate website is one of the ways we want to communicate with our customers. The site is always accessible. It will be regularly refreshed with up-to-date information and will allow users to customise the StarHub home page in a way that is both personal and useful to them."

 

Central to StarHub`s aim to simplify technology so that customers can benefit from them, StarHub has dedicated a section on the website called, ‘Technology Made Simple’. This section seeks to de-mystify technological terms and explain them in a customer-friendly manner which will enable customers to make an informed decision on the appropriate solution for their communication needs.

 

Mr Clontz added, "Through our web content and the variety of special features that we have introduced, we hope that our customers will be able to experience StarHub and have an understanding of the kind of company we are and the way that we are going to treat each and everyone of our valued customers."
