Configure With GroupWise

Your system administrator might need to verify and modify some GroupWise System settings to permit the BlackBerry® Internet Service to communicate with your GroupWise email account.

Changing the GroupWise System settings

The GroupWise System default presents 100 email messages per connection. To integrate your Novell GroupWise account with your BlackBerry® Internet Service account, increase this value by completing the following steps:

  1. Using Novell ConsoleOne®, select the GroupWise System.
  2. From the main drop-down list, click Gateways.
  3. Right-click GWIA and click Properties.
  4. Click the Access Control > Settings tab.
  5. Click Default Class of Service and click Edit.
  6. Click the POP3 tab and modify the value of the Maximum number of messages to download option to be greater than 100.

Note: The final value of Maximum number of messages to download must be determined by your system administrator and should be based on system resources. Consult the GroupWise System documentation for further information regarding this setting.

To improve performance, the default value for Number of threads for POP3 or IMAP Connections can be increased from 10. To increase the number of threads, complete the following steps:

  1. Using Novell ConsoleOne, select the GroupWise System.
  2. From the main drop-down list, click Gateways.
  3. Right-click GWIA and click Properties.
  4. Click the POP3/IMAP4 > Settings tab.
  5. Increase the value of Number of threads for POP3 or IMAP Connections.

Note: Modifying this value to exceed 999 might cause problems with threading and mailbox pop-lock. Consult the GroupWise System documentation for further information regarding this setting.

In addition to the above settings, the following must be supported by the GroupWise System for integration between a GroupWise account and the BlackBerry® Internet Service to occur:

Integrate the GroupWise IMAP or POP3 account to the BlackBerry® Internet Service

See Knowledge Base Article KB-02189 for instructions on how to integrate a third-party email address with your BlackBerry® Internet Service.

While integrating, if the BlackBerry® Internet Service was unable to auto-detect a connection to the GroupWise Server, then manually configure the connection by completing the following steps:

Note: You might need to contact your GroupWise system administrator to obtain information required for step 3.

  1. Select the email client such as Outlook™, Outlook Express™, Netscape®, Eudora® option under Internet Service Provider Email. This allows a connection to POP3 and IMAP servers.
  2. Click Submit.
  3. When prompted, specify your GroupWise email server name and port number.
  4. Click Submit to complete the process.
