Group SMS

  1. What is Group SMS?
    Group SMS is a Value-added Service that allows StarHub postpaid customers to send SMS to multiple recipients (StarHub, SingTel and M1 customers) with a single send action from the mobile phone.
  2. Do I need to subscribe for this service?
    No, this service is available to all StarHub postpaid mobile subscribers.
  3. What do I have to do to start using this service?
    To start using this service, you must first create and manage your Group SMS address book. You can use the Group SMS address book to:
    • Creating contacts
    • Creating various group names
    • Including up to 60 contacts in each group name
    • You may choose not to create groups but just include individual contacts in the address book
  4. How do I create the Group SMS address book?
    There are 2 ways to do this:
    • You may do so directly via the website at www.starhub.com; or
    • via your mobile phone (Please visit the website www.starhub.com for all the handphone commands.)
  5. Are the commands case-sensitive?
    No, they are not case-sensitive.
  6. Will I be charged for SMS sent to ADD/DELETE/CREATE contacts or groups via handphone and also address book management via web?
    No, there are no charges applicable to set up the Group SMS address book.
  7. What happens if I send the wrong command?
    You will get an error message on your mobile phone.
  8. Can the service support Chinese or SMS of other languages?
    Currently, only English SMS is supported.

Creating Address Book

  1. What is the maximum number of groups I can create in Group SMS?
    There is no limit on the maximum number of groups you can create.
  2. How many contacts can I save in one group?
    You are able to save up to 60 contacts in each group.
  3. Can I enter my friends' contacts in the Group SMS address book if they are subscribers of SingTel and M1?
    Yes. You may enter their contacts in the Group SMS address book and send Group SMS to all SingTel and M1 customers.
  4. If I delete a contact using my mobile phone, will this change be reflected when I view the address book on the web?
    Yes, all changes made via your mobile phone will be reflected in the address book on the web.
  5. Is my Group SMS address book (i.e. all individual contact names and group names) stored in the SIM card or mobile phone memory? Can I view the Group SMS address book like how I typically view my mobile phone entries?
    The contact names and group names are not stored in your mobile phone. They are all stored in StarHub’s central address book, which is currently being used by the following StarHub’s online applications:
    • myEmail
    • SMSemail
    • Group SMS
    As such, you can only view the Group SMS address book via your mobile phone by using the Group SMS commands.

Sending of Group SMS

  1. How do I send a Group SMS?
    1. To start, type: G<group name><your message>.
    2. Send to '2222'.
  2. Can I send one Group SMS to a few groups and individual contacts in one go?
    Yes, you may send one Group SMS to a few groups and individual contacts by using one command.
    E.g.: G friends,family,#91234567,#97654321-Party tonight at my place.
  3. What is the maximum number of people I can send to with one Group SMS?
    At any one time, you may use Group SMS to send to as many groups and individual contacts as you like. However, please ensure that there should only be 60 contacts in each group. If there are more than 60 contacts in a group, only the first 60 contacts will receive the SMS.
  4. I did not receive any reply for my request. What could have happened?
    You may have sent your message to a wrong destination number. The correct number to send to is ‘2222’.
  5. How many Group SMS can I send out in a day?
    You may send as many Group SMS as you like each day.
  6. Can I send Group SMS to pagers?
    No, you may send Group SMS to mobile numbers only.

Roaming with this service

  1. Can I send/receive any Group SMS while roaming overseas?
    Yes, as long as the foreign operator's network you are roaming with supports the usual incoming and outgoing SMS, subject to the overseas SMS charge. .

Charges

  1. Do I have to pay for this service?
    Group SMS is not chargeable if your SMS usage does not exceed the free SMS allocated by your subscription plan, if any. After that, each SMS will be charged at 5.35 cents.
  2. If I send a Group SMS to a Group consisting of 10 people, how will I be charged?
    Sending a Group SMS to a group consisting of 10 people is equivalent to sending 10 SMS. You will not be charged if your SMS usage does not exceed the free SMS allocated by your subscription plan, if any. After that, each SMS will be charged at 5.35 cents.
