  2. What Is - Maximum message size using BlackBerry® Internet Service
Messages in a BlackBerry® account may not exceed 8 MB, including attachments.

Note: It doesn't matter how large the maibox is; no message may exceed 8 MB.
  3. What Is - Leave messages on server
When integrating an external email account with your BlackBerry® account, the default setting Leave messages on server is selected. This saves a copy of the messages sent to your BlackBerry® Wireless Handheld™.

Warning: If the Leave messages on server checkbox is not checked, messages sent to the handheld are not saved on the mail server and may be lost. For example, if you delete a message from your handheld, it cannot be recovered.

To verify the Leave messages on server option is selected,
    1. Connect to the BlackBerry® Internet Service website and log in to your BlackBerry® account.
    2. On the navigation bar, click Profile.
    3. In the Email Accounts heading, click other email accounts.
    4. In the Email Accounts list, click an integrated account. The Modify an Email Account screen appears. The Leave messages on server setting is visible and can be selected or deselected.
  4. What Is - Maximum amount of imported contacts for a BlackBerry® account
Each BlackBerry® account (accessible using a BlackBerry® Web Client site) is allotted 3 MB of space that is dedicated to store contacts within the address book.
  5. What Is - Auto Reply
An automatic reply is sent in response to messages that you receive on the handheld.

An auto reply is sent once every seven days in response to each email message that you received while the Auto Reply feautre is enabled.

If you modify your Auto Reply, it will not be sent to people who received your previous Auto Reply within the past seven days, unless you disable and then re-enable it.

To enable the Auto Reply feature, complete the following steps:
    1. Log in to your BlackBerry® Internet Email Service account.
    2. On the menu bar, click Auto Reply, on the Auto Reply page, in the text box, type an auto reply.

  6. What Is - Auto-aging and BlackBerry® Web Client
Configuring auto-aging in the BlackBerry® Web Client to 1 day allows 2 days of email messages to be stored in the Inbox. One day represents a 1-day range, rather than all messages received during a single day. For example, if you configured auto-aging to be 1 day on 28 January on the 29 January messages dated both days would be stored in your Inbox.

One-day is the lowest auto-aging setting.
  7. What Is - MSN Hotmail Plus subscription requirement for BlackBerry® Internet Service
If you are a Microsoft MSN Hotmail account holder, you must subscribe to MSN Hotmail Plus in order to integrate your Hotmail account with your BlackBerry® account. If you attempt to integrate a regular Hotmail account, the following error message appears:

BlackBerry® V2.0

  1. What are the upgrade options for existing BlackBerry® customers to take BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0?
As an existing BlackBerry® Professional  customer you have the BlackBerry® Internet Service (BIS) 1.8 version.  With this upgrade to BIS 2.0, you will have the option to upgrade accordingly.  This upgrade is self- initiated, i.e. when you log into your BIS email account via the HTML or WML interface, you will be presented with a screen prompting you to migrate to BIS 2.0.  Please choose either Yes or No.  You can choose to upgrade to BIS 2.0 at your convenience.   Once you have upgraded, you will no longer be prompted with that screen.
  2. Do you have a comparison chart of the difference between BIS v1.8 and BIS v 2.0?

    BlackBerry® Internet Service v1.8 BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0
Do you get push email – where no prompting is necessary and messages are delivered automatically to your BlackBerry® Device?   Yes Yes
Can you view attachments? Yes Yes and with BIS 2.0, you also have improved Powerpoint attachment viewing
Do you manage your BlackBerry® device mailbox by logging on to a website? Yes No – you can do it right from your BlackBerry® device.  There’s no need to log on to a website.
Is there an email storage quota? Yes. There’s a size based quota with user defined auto-aging. No. There are no storage quotas to manage.  With 30 day auto-aging, the mailbox never gets full.
Will email messages sent to your BlackBerry® device also be stored online at the BIS website? Yes. No
Is a BlackBerry® email address required? Yes. Creating a BlackBerry® email address is a mandatory part of setting up the BlackBerry® device. No. Customers now have the option to create a BlackBerry® email address.
Can customers choose their BlackBerry® email address? No – the BlackBerry® email address is based on their BlackBerry® User ID and the user ID cannot be changed. Yes. Customers who choose to set up a BlackBerry® email address can change it.  It’s dependent of their BlackBerry® User ID.
How are 3rd  party email accounts assessed? All third party mail is downloaded to a central, RIM- hosted email account prior to it delivered to the device. There is no need for an interim email account to provide 3rd party email account access via a BlackBerry® device. Instead, the 3rd party account is assessed directly.
Do I have to choose just one “sent from” address for messages sent from my BlackBerry® device? Yes No. You can easily add up to 10 business and / or personal email accounts, configure each one individually and use a unique “sent from” address for each email account and each email account will have a separate inbox on the BlackBerry® device.
  3. What are the most important changes to BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0?
Direct Access – BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0 introduces a new direct access architecture which improves the BlackBerry® experience for users who set-up their BlackBerry® device to receive email from third party accounts: one-way synch of message status and deletion, unique identity (sent-from addresses) per email account. There is no requirement for a BlackBerry® email address, if the user is only integrating.

Yahoo! Mail Implementation – RIM has worked with Yahoo! to provide an improved experience for BlackBerry® Internet Service subscribers. Yahoo! Mail on BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 provides: real-time delivery, one-way synch of message status, deletes sent-items and access to all of Yahoo!’s domains.

New Mailbox Model – The BlackBerry® email address has been repositioned as a device-centric, email-addressable, messaging service for BlackBerry® devices. This address continues to be real-time and pushed, but the burden of managing quotas has been eliminated due to the addition of an unlimited mailbox.

General – The desktop site in BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 has been removed.
  4. Why does BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 support only 1-way synch?
1-way synch is a low cost operation, from a system utilization and band width perspective. When a user marks a message as read, the device queues similar requests for 5 minutes, and sends the request to BlackBerry® Internet Service Email. BlackBerry® Internet Service Email in turn logs into the email account and knows the specific messages to apply the state changes to.
  5. Why did RIM remove web mail from BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0?
In step with the new mailbox model, BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 is moving away from acting as a web mail provider and instead focuses on wirelessly extending existing email accounts. Email’s ubiquity, the numerous web mail providers which offer extremely feature-rich and large mailbox sizes and BlackBerry®’s reputation as an enabling technology, lead RIM to repositioning the BlackBerry® email addresses role in the portfolio.
  6. Why did RIM remove iNotes support from BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0?
iNotes represents an extremely small percentage of BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 third party accounts, but a disproportionate number of escalated bugs. The nature of iNotes encourages customization in implementation and, therefore, corresponding challenge in adequately supporting iNotes as a protocol.
  7. What is the new mailbox model for the BlackBerry® email address in BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0?
The BlackBerry® email address account has 30-day forced auto-aging, a 500 MB quota and a 1000 message count cap.
  8. Which mail providers would have implemented real time delivery with the launch of BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2 ?
Only Yahoo! Mail is currently planned. However, RIM is working with many other mail providers on a similar implementation.
  9. Does BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0 support OTA calendar and address book synch?
No. BlackBerry® Internet Service v2.0 does not support OTA calendar or address book synch. Users are able to synchronize their calendar and address book using BlackBerry® Desktop Software and a USB cable.
  10. Does BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 support folders?
No. BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 supports access and synch only to the Inbox. The majority of email accounts in BlackBerry® Internet Service Email v2.0 are POP sources and do not have the concept of folders.
  11. What happens to the more portion of the message after thirty days?
If the user attempts the more option (eg. reply or forward the message), the device will attempt to forward by reference. As the message has been auto-aged, it will not be present on the server.  The device IUI will return an X, but the user can send the local copy by trying again.

CANC The system has automatically cancelled the number because it is incorrect OR a request has been received from the customer to cancel a job that is either in progress or scheduled for a later date.
ERR A connection has been made, but for an unspecified reason, the image cannot be transferred. The line may have dropped out and the connection lost.
