  1. What is MaxOnline Premium?

    MaxOnline Premium offers you up to 50Mbps (50,000Kbps) download speed available for residential broadband access in Singapore. It is ideal for bandwidth intensive applications such as multiple music downloads, home office and home networking. Customers who also run multiple applications on one PC such as concurrent sessions for online chat, web access and download will find this premium service ideal and value-for-money.

  1. I would like to purchase a wireless PC/USB card/Ethernet card. Can I purchase it from StarHub? If so, where and how much does it cost?

    Yes, you may. Linksys PCMCIA cards are sold at $80.20; USB cards are sold at $87.74. You can also purchase Wireless Network Interface Cards (NICs) at computer peripheral stores as well. Performance/distance ranges will vary between these cards as they are made of different components (even though they adhere to the same standards).

  1. I am currently a MaxOnline Basic, MaxOnline Value or MaxOnline Express. Can I upgrade to MaxOnline Premium? How do I go about doing so?

    Only StarHub type-approved cable modems with 10/100 Base-T connection will be able to support MaxOnline Premium. To fully utilise the allocated bandwidth, we recommend that you connect via the cable modem’s Ethernet port instead of the USB port. Please check the compatibility of your cable modem by referring to the Cable Modem Compatibility Table.

    You can also purchase a new cable modem from any StarHub Shop or redeem for a cable modem with your StarHub Rewards points.

  2. Can I get the maximum download speed ALL the time with MaxOnline Premium?

    The maximum download speed will be of the respective plans you have signed up, that is, you will get up to 50Mbps (50,000Kbps)+ for MaxOnline Premium. However, the actual bandwidth speeds may vary and is dependent on various factors :-

    • the compatibility of your cable modems, wireless router and Network Interface Cards to fully utilise the allocated bandwidth
    • the number of computers connected to the same cable modem and broadband router
    • the number of users connected in the household accessing the Internet at the same time
    • the websites you are accessing
    • the type of applications that are being used
    • the performance of your computers and Operating Systems


  3. How do I check if my existing Network card is 10 Base-T or 10/100 Base-T?

    Go to "Control Panel" / "System" / "Hardware" / "Device Manager" / "Network Adapter". If your Ethernet port/network adapter is a 100 Base-T, there is likely to have a numeric "100" under the "Network Adapter".

    If you are using Win98, please check if your Ethernet port is a 100 Base-T. Select "Control Panel" / "System" / "Hardware" / "Device Manager" / "Network Adapter". If your Ethernet port/network adapter is a 100 Base-T, there is likely to have a numeric "100" under the "Network Adapter".

  4. Can I use my current 10 Base-T card for MaxOnline Premium?

    Yes, you can but you will be limited to a maximum speed of 10Mbps due to your 10 Base-T network card. We recommend you to use a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet Network Interface Card to enjoy MaxOnline Premium to the fullest.

  5. How do I check if my existing USB port supports USB 2.0?

    Please refer to your manufacturer for more information.

  6. Can I use my current USB 1.0 / 1.1 for MaxOnline Premium?

    No, you cannot. As USB 1.0 and 1.1 has a data transfer-rate of up to 12Mb/s, it is recommended that you connect via the cable modem Ethernet port.

  7. I am currently a MaxOnline Basic, MaxOnline Value or MaxOnline Express customer subscribing to Digital Voice. Am I eligible to upgrade to MaxOnline Premium?

    Yes, you can upgrade to MaxOnline Premium. You will need a DOCSIS 3.0 Integrated Wireless Voice-Enabled Modem (Cable-ready Wireless Home Gateway) at your premises to access MaxOnline Premium.

  8. I am currently on the Landed Connection scheme enjoying free MaxOnline Express subscription. Can I exchange it for MaxOnline Premium?

    Customers on Landed Connection Agreement enjoying complimentary MaxOnline Express cannot exchange their entitlement for MaxOnline Premium. To enjoy MaxOnline Premium, you will need to sign up for MaxOnline Premium access plan separately.

  9. I would like to have more than one cable modem subscription in my home. What would be the monthly subscription charge for an additional access plan?

    Each additional access subscription is also charged at a monthly rate of $59.92 for MaxOnline Express and $81.32 for MaxOnline Premium and $124.12 for MaxOnline Ultimate.

  10. What is the MaxOnline Premium subscription rate for business users?

    MaxOnline Premium is available to residential customers living in cable-ready homes only.

  11. Where can I purchase a cable modem if I want to subscribe to MaxOnline?

    You can purchase a modem through StarHub or any StarHub Shop or MaxOnline Preferred Partner. There are more than 80 MaxOnline Preferred Partner islandwide and these resellers will have cable modems for sale. For a list of MaxOnline Preferred Partner, please click here.

    In this way, when you purchase a cable modem, you can subscribe to MaxOnline at the same time and enjoy instant connection.

  12. If I have purchased a cable modem from one of the MaxOnline Preferred Partner, how do I sign up for MaxOnline access plan?

  13. I already have a cable modem/received a cable modem from my relative/friend. I would like to have broadband access using MaxOnline service. What do I have to do?

    All cable modems to be used on StarHub's network must be type-approved by IDA. When a cable modem is approved, there will be a sticker on the modem with a unique HFC Mac ID address. If you have a type-approved cable modem, you can visit either any StarHub Shop to activate your MaxOnline service.

  14. I already have a MaxOnline broadband connection at home. I would like to sign up for anadditional access plan at the same address. How do I go about doing this?

    For sales enquiries, please call 1630 to sign up for an additional access plan and purchase a cable modem through StarHub as well. Alternatively, you can also visit any StarHub Shop or MaxOnline Preferred Partner to purchase a cable modem and sign up for additional access plans as well.

    If you already have a cable modem and require only access, you should visit any StarHub Shop or MaxOnline Preferred Partner to sign up for an access plan only.

  10. How long is the warranty period of these cable modems?

    The cable modems offer a warranty period of two years from the date of purchase or service activation, whichever is earlier.

  11. What does the warranty cover?

    The warranty entitles you to a one-for-one exchange of the cable modem should the cable modem become faulty during the warranty period. The customer can call the StarHub customer hotline 1633 to arrange for replacement of defective equipment. A comparable equipment may be used as replacement.

  12. If I experience problems with my cable modem during my warranty period, do I have to pay for a service call if I request for one?

    Yes, a service call charge of $53.50 is applicable if the problem is isolated to the cable modem. If the cause of the problem is network-related, this charge will be waived.

    StarHub can assist with exchanging the faulty cable modem on the spot as a value-added service provided the equipment is within its warranty period. You will be required to provide the necessary verification by showing a valid warranty card.

  13. What is a HFC Mac ID?

    HFC Mac ID is a serial number identification on a cable modem that uniquely identifies your cable modem. This information is required for StarHub to activate the service successfully.

  14. Can I bring a cable modem home from overseas and connect it to my computer and cable point at home and start surfing the Internet?

    All manufacturers are required to send their modems to IDA for type-approval before they can be sold in the retail market here in Singapore.

    In addition, each individual modem brought in by manufacturers also come tagged with its own unique Mac ID. When manufacturers send their modems to StarHub for type-approval, they will also issue a corresponding set of Mac IDs to StarHub to be stored and authorised in our database before the modems can be put on sale. So without both the type-approval and the HFC Mac ID in our database, the cable modem will not work in StarHub's network.
