1. What is a HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) and how is it different from the current model (4586DVB)?

The HD Interactive set-top box (Samsung GX-SH530CF) is a new model that has similar features as the existing HD Interactive set-top box (Cisco 4586DVB), and it comes with some new features such as Searching of titles in linear channels as well as Video On Demand, Channel Listings for On Demand Channels and Catch Up TV and a brand new modern and fresher look. The HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) also comes with an inbuilt DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem that provides two-way interactivity, where viewers can enjoy Video On Demand, KaraOK!, On Demand Channels, Catch-Up TV, Instant Buy and Interactive TV.

2. How much is the HD Interactive set-top box (SAMSUNG GX-SH530CF)?

The HD Interactive set-top box (SAMSUNG GX-SH530CF) is available for a monthly rental subscription of $6.42 (with GST) per box. An additional screen charge of $10.70 (with GST) per box applies from 2nd box onwards.

3. What is the difference between HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) and the other set-top boxes?

The HD Interactive set-top box allows customer to access the Smart TV service, as well as the functionalities of the existing digital set-top box like the On-Screen TV Guide and Info Bar.

6. Can I purchase and own a HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF)?

No, HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) is only available on rental.

7. I’m using a HD Interactive set-top box (4586DVB), can I change it to the new model? If not, why is this so?

The HD Interactive set-top box is leased to our customers for viewing of channels that they subscribed to. Although the new model provides some new features, both models of HD Interactive set-top box provide the similar features. Hence, we do not replace existing set-top boxes with the new model or provide the option to choose between the two models of HD Interactive set-top box.

8. I do not have two-way signal at my premises. Can I still sign up for the HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes, you may still sign up for the HD Interactive set-top box. However, your in-built cable modem would not be activated and hence, you would not be able to enjoy Video On Demand services and two-way interactivity features such as KaraOK!, and Catch-Up TV.

9. How can I check if my address is cable ready with two-way signal?

You may visit StarHub’s website http://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/app/cabling_search.html, enter your postal code to check if your address is cable ready.

10. What are the interfaces available for StarHub’s HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF)?

StarHub’s HD Interactive set-top box provides several interfaces to optimise your HDTV viewing experiences.

The HD Interactive set-top box provides a HDMI and a Component Video interface that output HD video signals to your HD ready TV display. You can connect your HD ready TV display set to either of the two interfaces to receive the HD and SD programmes.

As some of the HD programmes will be transmitted in Dolby Digital, you can connect your Home Entertainment system to the HD set-top box, via the SPDIF interface using a optical cable, to enjoy the surround sound effect.

11. Does the HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) support HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)?

Yes, the HD Interactive set-top box (GX-SH530CF) supports HDMI. A HDMI cable will be issued as a default cable for the newer model (GX-SH530CF).

12. Since HDMI cable is the default cable issued, will I be issued the component cable too? If not, why?

With the advancement of technology of television sets, HDMI cable connections become more widely used and supported in most television sets. As such, HDMI will replace issuance of component cables.

Customers who require component cables may wish to purchase them separately.

13. My television set is not supported with a HDMI input. Will I be able to use HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes, in order to support television set without HDMI input, each set-top box will be issued with a composite cable.

14. The default HDMI cable issued is not long enough to connect to my TV. Will StarHub provide a longer HDMI cable?

No, the default HDMI cable issued (1.5m) is part of the standard kitting. Customers who require longer lengths may wish to purchase them separately.

15.  Will Samsung HD Interactive set-top box support IPTV?

Although the set-top box is IPTV enabled, it will only be available at a later date. More information will be made available closer to launch.

16.  Can I control the volume on the set-top box when connected using a HDMI cable?

Currently, this feature is not supported on HD set-top boxes. Alternatively, you may use your TV remote control to adjust the volume accordingly.
