1. What is a HD Interactive set-top Box?

The HD Interactive set-top box supports the transmission of cable TV and local free-to-air channels in both High and Standard Definition.

The HD Interactive set-top box also comes with an inbuilt DOCSIS 2.0 cable modem that provides two-way interactivity, where viewers can enjoy features such as access to Video-On-Demand services, KaraOK!, Start Over, Movie Ticketing and Instant Buy of channels on-screen via remote control.

2. How much is the HD Interactive set-top box?

The HD Interactive set-top box is available for rent at a monthly rental charge of $6.42 (w/GST). If the HD Interactive set-top box is used as the additional outlet, the monthly rental charges are $14.98 (w/GST).

3. Can I purchase and own a HD Interactive set-top box?

No, the HD Interactive set-top box is only available for rent.

4. I do not have two-way signals at my premises. Can I still sign up for the HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes, you may still sign up for the HD Interactive set-top box and enjoy High Definition programmes.

However, your inbuilt cable modem will not be activated and you would not be able to access Video-On-Demand services and two-way interactivity features such as KaraOK!, Start Over and Movie Ticketing. 

5. How can I check if my address is cable ready with two-way signals?

You may visit StarHub's "Cable Ready Status" and enter your postal code to find out the "cable ready" status of your home.

6. Can I view the SD channels using the HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes. The HD Interactive set-top box is designed to support both standard definition and high definition TV broadcasts. 

7. Can I receive MediaCorp Channel HD5 from the HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes, you will be able to receive MediaCorp HD5 on Channel 155. 

8. What are the interfaces available for StarHub's HD Interactive set-top box?

StarHub's HD Interactive set-top box provides several interfaces to optimise your HDTV viewing experience.

The HD Interactive set-top box provides a HDMI and a Component Video interface that outputs HD video signals to your HD ready TV display. You can connect your HDTV display set to either of the two interfaces to receive the HD and SD programmes.

As some of the HD programmes will be transmitted in Dolby Digital, you can connect your Home Entertainment system to the HD Interactive set-top box, via the SPDIF interface using a coaxial cable, to enjoy the surround sound effect. 

9. Does the HD Interactive set-top box support HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)?

Yes, the HD Interactive set-top box supports HDMI. 

10. Can I access, watch and purchase Video-On-Demand programmes using the HD Interactive set-top box?

Yes, you can access, watch and purchase Video-On-Demand programmes using the HD Interactive set-top box. 

11. With the introduction of the HD Interactive set-top box, does it mean that there will also be Video-On-Demand programmes which will also be available in HD?

Yes, some of the movies and TVB drama series are available in HD and you will get to enjoy such content in full HD glory using the HD Interactive set-top box. 

12. I notice that the front panel LED display will be dimmed when the HD Interactive Set-top box enters into standby mode. Why is this different from the HubStation or HubStation HD?

By dimming the LED display when it enters into standby mode, the HD Interactive Set-top box will help to reduce power consumption.

Smart TV™

1. What is Smart TV™?

Smart TV™ is a feature that gives you more control over your TV viewing and enjoy hassle-free recording. With Smart TV™, you will be able to enjoy ‘live’ TV control by selecting the show you want to record via StarHub TV’s On Screen TV Guide. You will be able to enjoy instantaneous recording based on series, show or time.

2. Are there any charges for Smart TV™?

As a HubStation / HubStation HD customer, you can enjoy the recording features of Smart TV™ on your set-top box with no additional charges.

If you are a HD Interactive set-top box customer, you can purchase the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB) from our StarHub Shops and subscribe to Smart TV™ value-added service at a monthly subscription of $4.28 (w/GST) to start enjoying the recording features on your HD Interactive set-top box.

3. How can I subscribe to Smart TV™ on my HD Interactive set-to box?

You would need to purchase the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB) from any of our StarHub Shops and plug the external device to your HD Interactive set-top box. Once plugged in, there will be a prompt to subscribe to the Smart TV™ value-added service. Press the blue button to subscribe to the Smart TV™ value-added service, and you will be able to start recording on your HD Interactive set-top box.

Note: Mini Pack customers with HD Interactive set-top box will not be able to subscribe to Smart TV via Instant Buy.

4. What is the monthly subscription for the Smart TV™ value-added service?

Smart TV™ value-added service is only applicable for HD Interactive set-top box and is on a monthly subscription of $4.28(w/GST) per billing account.

5. Will StarHub continue to charge the Smart TV™ subscription when the recording function is not in use? Eg. Digital Video Storage Device is detach from the HD Interactive set-top box.

The Smart TV™ value-added service is on a monthly subscription, and the subscription charge will apply even when the recording function is not in use.

To unsubscribe the Smart TV™ value-added service, you may contact our Customer Care Consultant at 1633.

6. I do not have a HD Interactive set-top box, can I still subscribe to Smart TV™ value-added service?

The Smart TV™ value-added service is only applicable to customers on HD Interactive set-top box.

Recording on HD Interactive set-top box

1. Can I view my recorded program using another HD Interactive set-top box? And why is in not possible?

Recorded content in the Digital Video Storage Device can be shared with any Samsung HD Interactive set-top box within the same household. Sharing of content is not applicable to Cisco HD Interactive set-top box.

2. Do I need to re-enter all the programmes which I have scheduled for recording, if I use a new Digital Video Storage Device? 

In the event that a new Digital Video Storage Device is plugged to your HD Interactive set-top box, the programmes which you have scheduled for recording will remain, thus you will not be required to re-enter all the programmes which you have previously scheduled for recording.

3. I have two Digital Video Storage Devices. Can I connect both Digital Video Storage Devices to the HD Interactive set-top box and use both at the same time?

At any point in time, only one Digital Video Storage Device can be paired to the HD Interactive set-top box.

In the event where two Digital Video Storage Devices are connected to the HD Interactive set-top box, you will be prompted to remove both the Digital Video Storage Devices and only connect one of the Digital Video Storage Device to your set-top box.

4. Am I able to schedule programmes for recording when the Digital Video Storage Device is disconnected from the HD Interactive set-top box?

You will not be able to schedule programmes for recording when the Digital Video Storage Device is disconnected from the HD Interactive set-top box.

5. There are 2 USB ports, which should I use?

You may connect the Digital Video Storage Device to any one of the USB port. At any point in time, only one Digital Video Storage Device can be paired to the HD Interactive set-top box.

6. I have connected my Digital Video Storage Device to the USB port and nothing happens, what should I do?

Please remove the Digital Video Storage Device from your set-top box and try to connect it to your set-top box again.

7. I have previously formatted my Digital Video Storage Device to store computer data how do I reformat the disk drive so that it can be use for video recording?

You may plug the Digital Video Storage Device to your HD Interactive set-top box and there will be a prompt asking you to reformat the Digital Video Storage Device so that you can start recording on your HD Interactive box.

8. I have purchased two Digital Video Storage Device from StarHub.  Can I transfer my recording from one Digital Video Storage Device to another?

Due to content rights issues, you will not be able to transfer recordings from one Digital Video Storage Device to another. 

Digital Video Storage Device - Western Digital My Passport AV (320GB) / My Passport Ultra (500GB) / My Passport Ultra (1 TB) Information & Support

1. Where can I purchase the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB) / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB)?

The Western Digital My Passport AV (320GB) is only available for purchase at our StarHub Shops at $88 w/GST (U.P $139).

The Western Digital My Passport Ultra (500GB) & My Passport Ultra (1 TB) will be available for purchase at any of the major IT Retail Shops.

2.  The Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB) which I purchased is faulty, can I get a 1-to-1 exchange from StarHub?

For faulty or exchange of Digital Video Storage Device, you may refer to Western Digital.

3. I wish to purchase the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB) and subscribe for Smart TV, can you arrange a delivery to me?

Purchase of the Digital Video Storage Device (only Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB) is currently only available at our StarHub shops. As for Western Digital My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB, you can purchase it from any of the major Retail IT outlets.

Once you have purchased the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB), plug it to your HD Interactive set-top box and you will be prompted to subscribe to Smart TV using your remote control.

4. Can I use other brands of external DVR device to record on my HD Interactive set-top box?

You can only use the type approved Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB) with the HD Interactive set-top box.

5. What is the capacity and price of the Digital Video Storage Device (Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB)?

The Western Digital My Passport AV (320GB) is sold only at StarHub Shops at $88, and it has a storage space of 320GB and can record up to 30 hours in High Definition or 160 hours in Standard Definition.

The Western Digital My Passport Ultra 500GB is sold at the major Retail IT outlets at a retail price of $89 and has storage space of 500GB that can record up to 75 hours in High Definition or 200 hours in Standard Definition.

The Western Digital My Passport Ultra 1 TB is sold at the major Retail IT outlets at a retail price of $139 and has storage space of 500GB that can record up to 160 hours in High Definition or 410 hours in Standard Definition.

6. What is the warranty period of Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB, and how do I verify the warranty period?

The Western Digital My Passport AV 320GB / My Passport Ultra 500GB / My Passport Ultra 1 TB has a warranty period of 3 years. Upon purchase, please register your product online at www.westerndigital.com (Click on ‘Support’, follow by ‘Product Registration’).
