Email Configuration for Windows

MS Outlook Express 5/6

MS Outlook Express 5/6 is an e-mail and offline news reader programme that comes with Internet Explorer 5.x and above. It can support multiple e-mail and newsgroup accounts.

You would need Internet Explorer 5.x and above in order to use MS Outlook Express 5/6.

The following instructions assume that you have successfully configured a mail account previously.

1.    Launch MS Outlook Express 5/6.
2.    Click on "Tools" and select "Accounts".

3.    Select the "Mail" tab. This will launch the Internet Connection Wizard. In the "Internet Accounts" window, click on "Add" and select "Mail".

4.    Key in your name under "Display name".

5.    To set your Internet e-mail address, key in your e-mail address.

6.    Set your default incoming mail server as a POP3 server, and key in the incoming and outcoming mail servers for your e-mail account provider as listed on the configuration settings.

7.    To facilitate your Internet Mail log-in, key in your userid and e-mail password. If your e-mail address is "chris@starhub.net.sg", then your Account name is "chris".

8.    You have completed the configurations for your e-mail settings.

9.    To ensure the settings are correct, click on the "Properties" under the "Internet Accounts" window.

10.    Click on the "Connection" tab. Uncheck the selection on "Always connect to this account using:" Click on "Apply", "OK" and "Close".

11.    Before sending any e-mails, do a receive/check mail to verify the settings.

Netscape 4.x

1.    Launch Netscape Messenger.
At the main screen, click on "Edit" and select "Preferences".

2.    Go to the category "Mail & Newsgroups" or "Mail & Groups" depending on your Netscape version. Under "Identity", ensure that your "Name" and "E-mail address" have been keyed in with your own e-mail settings.

3.    Click on the "Mail Servers" tab and ensure that your outgoing mail (SMTP) server has been keyed in correctly as listed on the Configuration Settings.

4.    Next click on "Add" to launch the "Mail Server Properties" window. Refer to the Configuration Settings and key in the Incoming Mail Server for your e-mail account as your "Server Name". Ensure that the "Server Type" is a POP3 Server.

Netscape 6.x

1.    Click on "Edit" and select "Mail/News Account Settings…".

2.    Click on "New Account" button.

3.    Select "ISP or e-mail provider".

4.    Key in the name you would like to appear in the "from" file and E-mail address provided by your e-mail provider.

5.    Select "POP" and key in the incoming mail server name of your e-mail provider.

6.    Enter the user name given to you by your e-mail provider.

7.    Next, enter the name by which you would like to refer to this account. (For example, "work account").

8.    Upon completion, you will be shown a "congratulation" window. Click on the "Finish" button to exit.

9.    To set up the outgoing server, select the outgoing server (SMTP) and key in the outgoing server name of your email account provider.

Eudora Light

1.    Launch Eudora Light E-mail.

2.    Click on "Tools" and select "Options".

3.    In the "Options" window, click on the category "Getting Started". Key in your e-mail address as your "POP Account" and your own name under "Real Name". The "Return Address" is the e-mail address that you want all returned e-mails to be addressed to.

4.    Next, click on "Hosts".

Ensure that the POP Account has your e-mail address. Refer to the Configuration Settings and key in the Outgoing Mail Server for your e-mail account provider as your "SMTP".

5.    Before sending any e-mails, do a receive/check mail to verify the settings.

Eudora 5.1

1.    Launch Eudora 5.1.

2.    Click on "Tools" and select "Options".

3.    In the "Options" window, click on the category "Getting Started". Key in your own name under "Real Name" and the email address that you want all returned e-mails to be addressed to under "Return Address". Under "Mail Server (Incoming)" and "Login Name", key in your incoming mail server name and email account name respectively. Lastly, key in the name of the SMTP server under "SMTP Server (Outgoing)".

4.    Before sending any e-mails, do a receive/check mail to verify the settings.

Email Configuration for Mac

MS Outlook Express 5

MS Outlook Express 5 is an e-mail and offline news reader programme that comes with Internet Explorer 5.0. It can support multiple e-mail and newsgroup accounts.

You would need Internet Explorer 5.0 in order to use MS Outlook Express 5.

The following instructions assume that you have successfully configured a mail account previously.

1.    Launch Microsoft MS Outlook Express 5.

2.    Click on "Tools" and select "Accounts".

3.    Select the "Mail" tab.
In the "Accounts" window, highlight your mail account and click "Edit".

4.    Click on the "Account Settings" tab. Ensure that your "Name" and "E-mail address" has been correctly keyed in with your own mail settings. If your e-mail address is "chris@starhub.net.sg", then your Account ID is "chris". Refer to the configuration settings and key in the incoming mail server of your e-mail account provider as your POP server and key in the Outgoing mail server as your SMTP server.

5.    Click on "OK". You have completed the configuration for your email settings.

6.    Before sending any e-mails, do a receive/check mail to verify these settings.

Netscape 4.x

1     Launch Microsoft MS Outlook Express 5.

2.    Go to the category "Mail Servers". Under "Identity", ensure that your "Name" and "E-mail address" have been keyed in with your own e-mail settings. 

3.    Click on "Mail Servers". Refer to the configuration settings and key in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server of your e-mail account provider.

4.    Next, click on "Add" launch the "Mail Server Info" window. Refer to the configuration settings and key in the incoming mail server for your e-mail account provider as your "Server Name" and ensure that "Server Type" is POP.

5.    Click on "OK". You have completed the configuration to your e-mail settings.

6.    Before sending any e-mails, do a receive/check mail to verify these settings.

Eudora Light

1.    Launch Eudora Light E-mail.

2.    Click on "Special" and select "Settings".

3.    In the "Settings" window, click on the category "Getting Started".

4.    Key in your e-mail address as your "POP Account" and your own name as "Real Name". To facilitate your Internet e-mail log on, key in your userid and e-mail password. If your e-mail address is "chris@starhub.net.sg", then your Account name is "chris".

5.    Next click on "Hosts".

Ensure that the POP Account has your e-mail address. Refer to the configuration settings and key in the Outgoing Mail Server for your e-mail account provider as your "SMTP".

6.    Click "OK". You have completed the configuration for your e-mail settings.

7.    Before sending any emails, do a receive/check mail to verify the settings.
