Microsoft Lumia - Mixing Business with Pleasure
16 June 2016

While the Bring your own device (BYOD) trend is burgeoning, most smartphones aren't built for the enterprise environment. They may look better, but the fact of the matter is, they cause more problems than they solve. The Microsoft Lumia series however, is a different breed altogether. The latest Lumia phones are business machines, packed into a small body of a smartphone. These precision-engineered devices are designed to blend in seamlessly with the business environment, while helping you take on the challenges of work and play.

In this post, let's explore why the Lumia series is not only a work horse, but also your new best friend.

1. Continuum - The computer on your phone

One of the most exciting features of the Lumia series* is that you can use your phone like a PC. You can connect the phone using an adapter to a regular monitor or even your TV and get a PC like experience on a second screen. You can use the phone as a touchpad or connect a keyboard and mouse to get some serious work done. Your productivity tools such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook and everything else you are familiar with, scale up to the big screen letting you work efficiently. It's a PC-like experience that’s powered by your phone.

2. Windows 10 - On your phone:

Most of us have at sometime or the other, used Microsoft’s operating system extensively at work. Imagine having this familiar interface with all the features, security and productivity on your phone. The Windows 10 Mobile OS which powers the Lumia series of phones, runs a unified interface across the desktop, tablets and phones.

This means that the latest Windows 10 experience along with the Microsoft’s Office suite is now on the Lumia smartphones. Now, you can start working in your, say at work, on your desktop and finish it on the go, on your Lumia phone, as they work seamlessly across devices. You can also buy apps, games, movies and music on the Windows store and access it across your desktop and Lumia phones on a single account.

3. Meet Cortana** - Your digital assistant

Imagine talking to someone to get your work done. With Cortana, all you have to do is ask. Cortana is Microsoft's Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool available across PCs on Windows 10 and Lumia phones. What can you do with a digital assistant? Plenty. You can search for files by simply asking Cortana. For instance, just ask for files from yesterday or last month and Cortana will list them for you. Cortana can help you identify a song, perform calculations and conversions, track flights and packages, check directions, provide weather updates, send emails, launch programs, and create calendar events.

You can also ask Cortana to set reminders for times, places, and people on your PC and Cortana will set a reminder across all your devices. Cortana goes beyond searching the web for a specific query. It ingrains itself into multiple facets of your life to become an indispensable part and a true digital assistant. It will NOT do your laundry though; it will helpfully suggest the nearest places for you to do it yourself.

4. Enterprise security out of the box

Finally, Microsoft has ensured that the Lumia phones are enterprise security ready out of the box. The Lumia series is integrated with Microsoft Passport to enable two-factor authentication and Windows Hello, which uses iris recognition. It also makes it easy to use mobile device management software, which lets your IT team remotely lock your phone or secure your data. Microsoft has a host of enterprise-grade security features that ensure your Lumia is free from spyware, viruses and other undesirable malware.

All of these features make the Lumia a great device for business mobility that secures corporate data, maximizes user productivity, while providing a truly personal experience. Do remember that some features are not available across all the Lumia series and you will have to purchase the dock to convert your phone into a PC.
