One month of free weekly access to a wide range of StarHub TV channels to thank customers

Singapore, 29 June 2012 – StarHub TV, Singapore's largest pay TV operator, is marking 20 successful years of home entertainment with a month-long celebration to thank customers for their loyalty and support. Starting 6 July, StarHub will be offering a series of weekly free previews, culminating in seven full days of all-access free channel viewing.1

The four free previews, each running for 100 hours, will be available from Friday, 9am to the following Tuesday, 1pm each week. Each free preview will showcase different content genres such as Kids and English Entertainment in Week 1, Asian, Ethnic and International content in Week 2, Sports, Lifestyle, Education and News in Week 3 and Movies in Week 4. The free previews will culminate in the week of National Day (3-10 August) where viewers can enjoy all the channels on StarHub TV free of charge for seven days.

In addition, StarHub TV is making it easier for customers to enjoy their favourite programmes in full High Definition (HD) glory. From now to 31 July, customers who upgrade to the Basic HD Upsize or HubStation HD will enjoy a 50 percent discount off the monthly subscription for 12 months.

"It has been a great 20 years. From our humble beginnings of just three TV channels, we've grown to over 180 channels and we're thankful that our customers have stuck with us every step of the way. The free screenings are our way of giving back to them and we hope that everyone can enjoy our channels with their families over the National Day holiday," said Ms Iris Wee, Vice President of Home Solutions & Content, StarHub.

StarHub TV started out in April 1992 as Singapore Cable Vision (SCV), which was the first pay TV service in Singapore to use the ultra-high frequency (UHF) band. In June 1995, SCV was licensed to operate cable television services delivering up to 50 channels and had 15,000 subscribers. Fast forward to 2012, StarHub TV now carries over 180 channels and has over 544,000 subscribers.2

Ms Wee added, "After all this time, we're proud to say that we're still Number One. Our drive to expand our offerings has allowed us to stay ahead of the competition. In addition to traditional programming, we have introduced innovative solutions such as TV Anywhere, a value-added service which allows subscribers to watch their cable TV plans on multiple screens. As we embark on the next 20 years, we hope to entertain customers with even more immersive experiences."

Over the last 20 years, StarHub TV has racked up a slew of firsts such as first pay TV operator in Southeast Asia to roll out High-Definition TV. StarHub TV's programming and content has also received international recognition by trade awards such as the PromaxBDA World Gold Awards and New York Festivals' International Television Programming and Promotion Awards.
