Singapore , 18 June 2009 – Creative Singaporeans who have a passion in application development are being offered a chance to create innovative Android applications for StarHub as it launches an Application Development Campaign for AndroidTM in Singapore today.

This campaign is launched in conjunction with four other member operators of the Conexus Mobile Alliance, namely Far EasTone (Taiwan), Indosat (Indonesia), NTT DoCoMo (Japan) and Truemove (Thailand) that are unveiling their respective campaigns in each local market.

The Application Development Campaign for Android is one of the many new initiatives that the Alliance has taken to promote rapid development of applications on the open Android platform, to nurture a vibrant developer community in the region. Other initiatives include supportive resources for Android developers, as well as aligned procurement and development of Android phones. These efforts are made in anticipation that more Android devices across major handset brands will be available in the market from the later half of the year.

Mr Chan Kin Hung, StarHub's Head of Personal Solutions and Advanced Multimedia Services, said: "As Singapore's most innovative info-communications provider, StarHub is excited to work with the Conexus Mobile Alliance member operators to drive the development of applications on open platforms such as Android, fostering innovation and creativity in application creation. Through this campaign, creative local developers are encouraged to build fast-to-market applications for end users. They could secure a chance to work with StarHub to take their applications to market and monetise them. They will also enjoy the added advantage of exposure to a worldwide industry audience with the Conexus Mobile Alliance member operators, potentially reaching to a larger customer base of more than 210 millions across the region."

StarHub's Application Development Campaign for Android is open to any individual or organisation building applications for consumers or businesses with key focal areas in roaming and travel, location aware services, security and surveillance, interactive digital media and entertainment, education, lifestyle and social networking, or productivity. The selection criteria for successful Android applications include user experience and usability, market relevance, and innovation and originality.

StarHub will identify two best entries to be showcased in a regional Developer Showcase Event for Android hosted by the Conexus Mobile Alliance in Hong Kong this November.

Entrants can register online and submit their entries between 1 July and 15 August 2009.
