Singapore, 28 April 2009 – This coming May, celebrate Labour Day and Mother’s Day with StarHub TV as it offers an exciting line-up of programmes with a month-long free preview of its Ruyi Hokkien Channel On Demand.

From 1 May to 31 May 2009, StarHub TV customers who are using HubStation, or HubStation HD will be able to access over 150 hours of Hokkien programming on-demand for free. The complimentary content include the first 20 episodes of each drama and the first five episodes of each variety and infotainment programme.

“Being the leading pay-TV operator in Singapore, we offer the best line-up of Chinese entertainment to local viewers. We hope to give our customers the opportunity to sample the rich variety of Taiwanese programmes in its original Hokkien language. Furthermore, the programmes are available on-demand and our customers have the flexibility to watch it anytime they wish,” said Ms Ong Bee Lian, StarHub’s Head of Pay TV & Entertainment.

Viewers can expect top-rated Taiwanese programmes such as A Place Called Home and Love Above All. Both dramas are ongoing in Taiwan where they enjoy high ratings. Produced by Formosa TV, A Place Called Home relates the trials and tribulations of Li Yun who marries into a wealthy family and has to cope with her mother-in-law and the power struggle within the family.  Love Above All stars Tony Sun of 5566, Chen Zhao Rong and Wang Geng Hao as three close friends who come together to start a vineyard.  

Other key programmes that viewers can look forward to include:

  • Liu Bo Wen – A period drama which depicts the extraordinary life of Liu Bo Wen, known for his exceptional wisdom and knowledge. Starring Eric Huang and Phoenix Huo.
  • Unique Flavour – Features a stellar cast including Chen Zhao Rong in this top-rated serial.  
  • Variety Get Together – A fun-filled variety programme hosted by Hu Gua, Xu Jie Hui and Yang Si Min that takes viewers across Taiwan.
  • Stories In Taiwan – An infotainment programme where hosts unravel untold stories in every corner of Taiwan that touches the heart.

To enjoy the free preview of Ruyi Hokkien Channel On Demand, customers simply need to press the ‘VOD’ button on their remote control and select Free Preview, followed by the complimentary titles from Ruyi Hokkien Channel On Demand. Thereafter, they can select the programme of their choice.

Ruyi Hokkien Channel On Demand is available to StarHub TV customers for a monthly subscription fee of $6 ($6.42 with GST). Customers who sign up for the channel between 1 May and 14 June 2009 will enjoy 50% off for the first three months. To subscribe to the channel, new customers can call 1630 to sign up for StarHub TV while existing customers can call 1633 to add the channel.
