More Tamil movies for the avid movie fans

Singapore ,  22 September 2008– StarHub has good news for the Indian communities! Come 24 September 2008, StarHub will add a new channel, Vannathirai (VTV) to its pay-TV line up. StarHub TV customers using the HubStation, digital or High Definition set-top box can look forward the latest blockbuster hits on VTV via StarHub TV Channel 30.

VTV is a 24-hour Tamil movie channel that offers classic movies and latest blockbusters as recent as those released in the cinemas one to three months ago. VTV is also the first Tamil movie channel in Singapore that goes ‘live’ seven days a week. At primetime everyday, viewers can tune into the ‘live’ show Hello ‘V’, call in to dedicate songs to their friends and loved ones, and have their messages aired to VTV audiences across the whole of Singapore.

Through VTV, viewers can also look forward to exclusive local programmes produced specially for the Singapore market. Examples include Nayyandi Club, a comedy-based skit featuring local artistes and Start Camera Action, a reality based programme whereby a local host goes around the Singapore streets in search of people with special talents.

VTV screens seven movies daily from five main categories namely ‘Morning Classic’, ‘Mega Matinee’, ‘Evening Hits’, ‘Blockbuster Reels’ and ‘Hit Night’. Viewers can enjoy movies ranging from those produced during the black-and-white era to the latest blockbusters in the respective categories:

  • Morning Classic

‘Morning Classic’ entertains with movies from the 70s right up to the 80s. Baivavi and Kannan En Kadhalan, produced with storylines that revolve around a family theme, are great hits with the older generation.

  • Mega Matinee

‘Mega Matinee’ brings the best and most popular movies from the 80s right up to the 90s. Catch Chanakkya starring Sarathkumar and Malzhai starring Jayam Ravi and Sreya.

  • Evening Hits

Enjoy movies from the 90s! Watch out for Arinthum Ariyamalum starring Arya and Prakash Raj as well as Sethu starring Vikram.

  • Blockbuster Reels

‘Blockbuster Reels’ showcases the latest and most popular movies dated from year 2000. Catch movies of different genres, including action, romance and comedy. Some blockbusters are Yaradi Ni Mohini starring Nayanthara and Thanush; Santhosh Subramaniam starring Jayam Ravi and Jenelia; Thotta starring Jeevan and Priyamani; Anjathey starring Prasanna and Naren as well as Kaalai starring Simbu and Vedika.

  • Hit Night

‘Hit Night’ screens movies from the black-and-white era, giving viewers a chance to reminisce the past.

Other than the line up of exciting movies, viewers can also enjoy an array of entertaining filler programmes on VTV. These filler programmes are grouped under different themes such as BEAT box which features songs from old and new movies, KOLLYWOOD glitz that showcases the latest happenings, behind the scenes of Kollywood such as the making of movies to music release events, STAR talk which presents exclusive interviews with Kollywood’s movie stars, MOVIE talk to share movie reviews and list of top 10 movies and songs as well as COMEDY to remind viewers of memorable funny moments captured from each movie.

StarHub TV customers can add VTV to their subscription packages for just $6.42 (with GST) monthly upon the subscription of at least three Basic Groups from StarHub TV’s subscription plan. Customers who sign up between 24 September and 31 October 2008 can enjoy 50 percent off the channel’s subscription fee for the first three months. Existing StarHub TV customers can call 1633 to subscribe to VTV while new customers can call 1630 to take on a StarHub TV package.
