Singapore, 28 March 2008 – StarHub, Singapore’s second largest info-communications provider, today announced the launch of its International Ethernet (IE) service that enables businesses in Singapore to deploy high-quality Data, IP and voice/VoIP solutions in Asia and the US using StarHub’s high-bandwidth, scaleable and secured International Ethernet connection.

The launch of this service follows StarHub's success in connecting Singapore businesses via its domestic Ethernet Leased Line services since 2003. With the IE service, StarHub can provide a high-bandwidth, scalable and secure carrier-grade international connection (ranging from 2Mbps to 1Gbps) to businesses that need to connect their offices around the region. The service is launched in partnership with Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC).

The service utilises Ethernet over Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (EoSDH) technology to securely transfer data from Singapore to overseas POPs, and thereafter to end-customers through the respective local carrier’s network. The beauty of IE includes its scalability, ease of deployment and low operating costs. IE can deliver 30% savings in network and connectivity costs over traditional technologies such as frame relay and ATM. It has the capability to support an expanding network in order to accommodate new users and new bandwidth-consuming applications.

“We have continued to evolve and extend our international footprint with the availability of Ethernet connectivity up to 1Gbps. By leveraging on the joint expertise of StarHub and HGC in offering reliable Ethernet business solutions in its respective local market and in Asia-Pacific, we are confident that the IE service would meet growing corporate demand for a flexible, secured and easy-to-deploy networking solution that spans the region,” said Mr. Adit Harinasuta, StarHub’s Head of Services and Solutions.

“We see pressing demand from corporate clients in both metropolises for telecom and connectivity services to support new bandwidth-consuming applications. We are pleased to foster a strong partnership with StarHub whose local experience in Singapore proves to be an invaluable asset. Leveraging this platform, HGC will be able to provide secure and reliable solutions to answer the need for the higher broadband usage across the region,” said Mr. Andrew Kwok, Vice President of the International Business Division of HGC.

StarHub can now provide IE coverage across the Asia-Pacific region including South Korea, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, the Philippines, Japan, and the USA.
