Singapore's fastest growing info-communications provider achieves significant mobile customer milestone ahead of local competitors

Singapore, 14 June 2004 - StarHub, Singapore's innovative info-communications provider and latest entrant to the local mobile arena, has surpassed the one millionth customer mark, a quantum leap from a zero customer base when it launched operations in April 2000. As the third mobile service provider in Singapore's already saturated market, StarHub chalked up 200,000 customers in just seven months after inception, a commendable feat which was five months ahead of target. StarHub subsequently secured 20% market share in just over two years of operations. As at end April 2004, StarHub has captured about 27% market share, making it the fastest growing mobile service provider in Singapore.

"We are delighted that StarHub has achieved more than a million mobile users in just over four years. During our early years, we believe that most people used StarHub Mobile because of Free Incoming Calls, Per Second Billing, and Airtime Rollover. Those key value features that have shaken up the Singapore mobile market are still available today. However, after merging with Singapore Cable Vision (SCV) two years ago, more and more people are discovering that it makes a lot of sense to get their mobile, Cable TV, and broadband services from one company," said Mr Terry Clontz, StarHub's President & CEO.

StarHub is the first telco in Singapore to provide innovative mobile offerings such as Airtime Rollover, Per Second Billing, Free Incoming Calls, Free IDD Calls and the conversion of Free SMS to MMS. In addition, StarHub Mobile is also the first to introduce services like WebSMS and MagicMsg, as well as the BlackBerry and Hiptop push-mail devices.

"Driven by a pioneering and competitive spirit, StarHub has brought a number of innovations to the market, and challenged the status quo. People in Singapore can continue to look forward to new ideas from StarHub in the future," added Mr Clontz.

The search for StarHub's millionth mobile customer began in May 2004. Five existing and five new mobile customers will each win S$30,000 worth of travel vouchers. All Postpaid and Green Prepaid StarHub Mobile customers, who are Singaporeans, Permanent Residents or Business-Registered customers are eligible for the lucky draw. Furthermore, to give more value to Hubbers (customers with StarHub Mobile, cable TV and MaxOnline subscriptions), StarHub's registered Hub Club members will stand to win an additional S$3,000 in cash if they are one of the 10 lucky winners.

Other Milestones
In just 18 months after its launch, StarHub has placed over 1,100 kilometres of optic fibre cable, installed an average of more than one mobile base station per working day, and established international dialing links to more than 200 destinations worldwide.

Its product portfolio at its initial launch included 330 different service configurations involving fixed, mobile, and international services, which is a feat never before matched by any new entrant anywhere. Following its merger with SCV in July 2002, the present StarHub is now an info-communications powerhouse providing a full range of information, communications and entertainment services over fixed, mobile and Internet platforms.
