Singapore, 30 December 2004 - StarHub has set in motion a series of initiatives in aid of the tsunami disaster victims. These measures were undertaken in the spirit of helping the victims and relief workers, and in some small way, help to meet the immediate needs of those afflicted by the tragedy.
StarHub IDD Charity Fund
On the corporate front, StarHub will be making a cash donation of S$100,000 from the StarHub IDD Charity Fund to the Medical Foundation -- a Foundation that is strongly supported by the Raffles Medical Group. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of medical supplies for the ill and injured, and to stem imminent epidemic outbreaks. Funds from the Foundation will also be used to provide drinking water, water-purifying tablets, surgical and sanitation supplies, and essential consumables such as milk powder.
Additionally, StarHub will be donating another S$100,000 from the StarHub IDD Charity Fund to "Network Indonesia" -- a business networking organisation spearheaded by IE Singapore in aid of Indonesian tsunami victims.
The StarHub IDD Charity Fund was launched in 2000 as part of StarHub's corporate philanthropy initiative. StarHub dedicates 1% of revenue earned from all its IDD 008 and IDD 018 calls to this Fund. The two corporate contributions from the StarHub IDD Charity Fund are aligned to the Fund's overarching objective of providing direct benefits to the needy.
From 1 January 2005, StarHub's Postpaid Mobile customers can make a S$10 cash donation by replying DONATE to our SMS broadcast or simply SMS DONATE to 7111. (The normal administrative charge for SMS donations will be waived).
In addition, all StarHub customers can contribute donations using their StarHub Rewards Points with effect from 7 January 2005. For 300 and 1,500 StarHub Rewards Points, S$10 and S$50 will be donated respectively. This can be done online at www.starhub.com/rewards or by calling the interactive voice response (IVR) hotline at 1633 and selecting item code 03-086 for a $10 donation and item code 03-087 for a $50 donation. Donations via SMS and StarHub Reward Points are open till 28 February 2005.
StarHub customers and members of the public can also make cash donations at the 50 donation boxes located at StarHub Shops and Exclusive Partner outlets located island-wide from 7 January 2005. These donation boxes will be made available till 28 February 2005.
All contributions collected via SMS messages, StarHub Rewards Points and donation boxes will be forwarded to the Red Cross Tidal Wave Fund.
