StarHub and channel partners sweep more than 30 awards

Singapore, 4 December 2003 - Promos on television are no longer merely informative spots. They can be delightful works that viewers actually look forward to catching!  StarHub CableTV customers have been enjoying just that - they need not wander far to catch award-winning promos!

Together with its channel partners, StarHub, Singapore's only pay-TV operator, swept more than 30 awards at the prestigious Promax&BDA Asia 2003 held in Singapore. StarHub itself clinched four awards - two Golds and two Silvers.  The Promax&BDA Asia awards recognise excellence in promo, brand and marketing in Asia.

StarHub's promo spot for Italian Serie A 2002/2003 was a clear favourite with the judges, bagging a Gold for the Best Sports Promo, and a Silver award in the Best Launch Campaign category.  This spot, shot very much like a film, was inspired by The Godfather series of movies and celebrated the dramatic aspects of Italian soccer such as rivalry, passion and bloodshed, as well as touching on the importance of family bonds.

The second Silver was clinched for StarHub's French Open 2003 promo.   Getting another nod in the Best Sports Promo category, this fun and buoyant spot that drew inspiration from movies such as Gigi, conveyed the mood of spring at Roland Garros and was underscored by a piece of jazzy French lounge music.

StarHub’s accolades at the Promax&BDA Asia 2003 were not confined to creative promos.  The pay-TV operator also secured the Gold award in the Best Original Logo Design category for E City, a self-packaged channel.

StarHub's international and regional channel partners - Discovery Networks Asia, MTV Networks Asia, NGC Network Asia, Nickelodeon Asia, STAR Group, and Walt Disney Television (Singapore), also scored multiple wins for their works.

Earlier this year, StarHub was already in the limelight when it clinched two awards at the international Promax&BDA 2003 in June - a prestigious BDA Platinum award and a Promax Platinum Award Honourable Mention.

"It is a great honour to win the BDA Platinum award especially since it was the first time platinum awards were given out at the international Promax&BDA.  This bears testimony to the recognition of StarHub's thought leadership and creative excellence," said Mr Da Sheng Toh, Director of StarHub's Creative Services.

The BDA Platinum award in the Sports Programmes: Topical Promos category was bestowed on StarHub for its FA Cup 2002 promo. The spot captured the intensity of soccer lovers' passion for the sport, through the use of fast cuts and colour contrast between black, white and blood red.

StarHub was awarded the Promax Platinum Award Honourable Mention for Battle of Big Horn in the Cable Channels & Networks: Sports Programme Campaign category.  Through an adaptation of pop art cartoon style of Lichenstein, this spot parlays the look of comics to highlight the golf 'battle' at the Horn and portrayed famous golfers as superheroes.

"At StarHub, we are not content with just scheduling the best programmes for our cable TV customers," added Mr Toh. "We also want them to be well-entertained during the breaks too. Hence, we are always harnessing our creative juices to ensure that our promos are not only informative but also compelling and memorable."
