StarHub IDD Charity Fund - Contribute to charity with each call you make

StarHub also One of the Largest Donors for The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box 2002

Singapore, 29 November 2002 – The Christmas season of sharing and caring has begun! And to celebrate with the less fortunate in society, StarHub has pledged S$150,000 from the StarHub IDD Charity Fund to The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box 2002. This donation makes StarHub one of the largest donors for The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box 2002.

StarHub customers will be heartened to know that with each IDD call they make, they are also doing their part for charity, as StarHub donates 1% of its IDD revenue from all 008 and 018 calls to charity. With this pledge, StarHub will fulfil over 1,100 wishes for the elderly (for basic necessities such as rice cookers, fans and food items) and the youth (for educational tools such as school haversacks and school stationery). These wishes make up about a quarter of the wishes received by The Boys’ Brigade to date. In addition, StarHub will also help finance basic food items such as rice and milk powder for the less fortunate in society.

This is the second consecutive year that StarHub is participating in this event. StarHub’s contribution via the StarHub IDD Charity Fund, a 50 per cent increase from its previous year’s contribution of S$100,000, will come in extra handy during such difficult economic times when the less fortunate feel even more keenly the need for society’s help for their daily sustenance needs.

StarHub’s Christmas Charity Campaign 2002

StarHub’s donation to The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box is the second charity effort from StarHub for Christmas 2002. On 12 November 2002, it had pledged S$130,000 via the StarHub IDD Charity Fund to eight charities for donation of PCs, printers and assistive technology for the disabled.

StarHub’s total donation for its Christmas charity campaign therefore stands at S$280,000.

Mr Terry Clontz, President & CEO of StarHub, said, "The difficult economic situation this year has impacted many of the less fortunate in society. Basic necessities such as food, household items and educational equipment have become top priority in their daily lives. We listened closely to their needs, and that is why this year, we delivered meals and food hampers to the homes of the less fortunate, donated assistive technology equipment to the disabled and also hosted field trips and overseas trips. All these charity efforts would not have been possible without the strong support of our customers, as we have committed one per cent of our IDD revenue to the StarHub IDD Charity Fund. Our Christmas charity campaign for 2002 is the icing on the cake as it is the largest donation via our Fund to date."

The beneficiaries of StarHub’s second charity effort come from various community associations such as All Saints Home, Bethesda Care & Counselling Family Service Centre, Eurasian Association, Singapore Children’s Society, Lion’s Befrienders, Care Corner Family Service Centre (Queenstown and Toa Payoh), Covenent Family Service Centre and Daybreak Family Service Centre. StarHub will donate items that will cater to both the young and old, ranging from four years old to 104 years old.

"We look forward to 2003 as we hope to bring to Singapore more meaningful community efforts that not only benefit the needy, but also help to raise awareness of their plight to other companies and individuals. Hopefully they will follow our lead in reaching out to the less fortunate in society and enabling them to integrate with society," added Mr Clontz.
