- Launches Integrated Fixed and Mobile Data Network To Help Corporate Customers Enhance Mobility, Improve Network Management And Reduce Cost -

Singapore, 31 May 2002 – StarHub, Singapore’s innovative info-communications provider today launches StarHub IP.Q GPRS Interconnect, a service that integrates StarHub’s corporate broadband network (StarHub IP.Q) with StarHub’s General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) network.

This convergence between StarHub’s fully-fibre fixed data network with the 2.5G mobile data network means that corporate customers will be able to enhance their communications networks efficiently and cost-effectively by having just one data connection to access multiple services on both fixed and mobile data networks.

"StarHub IPQ-GPRS Interconnect is a crucial phase in StarHub’s commitment to integrate both its mobile and fixed data networks. This means customers can expand from their fixed network environment and seamlessly extend their business critical applications into the mobile space. Apart from having better control of their communications systems, customers can also reduce their info-communications expenditure," said Mr Andrew Grenville, Vice President for Product Management and Marketing, Business Markets. "StarHub IPQ-GPRS Interconnect allows customers to simplify the process of building their connectivity infrastructure and expand the variety of data applications on both mobile and data networks."

For StarHub IP.Q’s corporate customers, StarHub IP.Q GPRS Interconnect extends their fixed data networks into StarHub’s mobile data network, allowing - for example - customers with a GPRS handset to access crucial corporate information from their corporate data network easily and securely. In addition, companies will be able to create one-to-one or one-to-many IP-VPN sessions not only between corporate locations but also between mobile handsets as well as a combination of both systems.

For corporate customers on StarHub's GPRS network, they will now be able to better control their data traffic on the backend through StarHub IP.Q, an MPLS-based (Multi-Protocol-Label-Switching) fixed network which allows prioritisation of data traffic. Companies having both Internet and m-commerce data traffic at the backend, for example, can ensure that m-commerce data traffic takes priority over normal Internet data traffic. Through MPLS technology, companies can efficiently prioritise their data for a variety of third-party corporate applications within their operations such as fleet management software or file/database access services.

Added Mr Chan Kin Hung, Vice President for StarHub Mobile, "StarHub IPQ-GPRS Interconnect combines increased scalability of StarHub IP.Q’s infrastructure with the flexibility and extensive mobile coverage of StarHub’s GPRS network. Corporate customers will also be able to enjoy high availability and security on both mobile and fixed data networks as they are managed by a single source."
