Singapore, 1 July 2002  StarHub Internet customers will soon feel safer from computer virus attacks, simply by subscribing to the upcoming Personal Anti-Virus E-mail Scanning Service. This new service, which monitors both inbound and outbound e-mails, will thoroughly scan, quarantine and clean any infected messages and attachments sent to or from a domain name. In addition, an e-mail notification will be sent to the sender and recipient to alert them of the virus. The anti-virus solution is installed on StarHub Internet’s e-mail servers and will be updated daily to ensure maximum protection to subscribers.

"Computer viruses can cause considerable harm not only in terms of computer damage, but also in terms of loss of man-hours, productivity, revenue and confidence. With this service, we will ensure our customers get a smooth and safe Internet experience all the time," said Mr David Ho, Assistant Vice President, Consumer IP Services, StarHub Internet. "Together with the customer’s own anti-virus software running on their PCs, this double-armour against viruses will safe-guard our customers’ data and ensure greater confidence to their Internet lifestyle."

The anti-virus solution behind this new service is provided by Trend Micro, a worldwide leader in network anti-virus and Internet content security solutions.

Said Mr Isaac Lim, Country Manager for Trend Micro, Singapore, "Viruses and malicious codes are growing in variety and complexity, and it is becoming increasingly tedious for corporations and end-users to keep out the infections. Hence, the 24x7 anti-virus service and support infrastructure provided by StarHub with Trend Micro’s Anti-Virus Solution, is an effective option for protecting our computers from damage."

The Personal Anti-Virus E-mail Scanning Service is set to launch at end July 2002 and is open to all StarHub Internet customers. Pricing will be made available later.
