Singapore, 12 December 2001 -- Christmas is a time for Sharing …… and in the spirit of giving, StarHub has fulfilled the wishes of over 760 elderly folks and two community associations via The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box. StarHub also donated several food items to 2,000 hampers which The Boys’ Brigade will give to children, other community associations and the less fortunate in society. In addition, StarHub also sponsored 10,000 bottles of mineral water to The Boys’ Brigade volunteers, for their consumption during their volunteer efforts with the Sharity Gift Box.

The donation of basic electrical and food items worth over S$100,000 was made possible by the StarHub IDD Empowerment Fund. Since its launch in July 2000, StarHub had committed 1% of the revenue earned from all customers’ calls made via IDD 008 and I-Call 018 to the Fund. IDD 008 is StarHub’s premium quality International Direct Dial (IDD) service whilst I-Call 018 is StarHub’s economic value IDD service.

Said Mr William Tan, General Manager of Voice Services, StarHub, "We are thankful for the generous support of our customers who have contributed to the StarHub IDD Empowerment Fund and in turn, made possible this donation to the Sharity Gift Box. During these difficult economic times, it is imperative that we remember the less fortunate in society who depend on us to fulfill their basic needs. That’s why we have also in turn encouraged our entire staff body to donate to the Sharity Gift Box. Our community efforts are an ongoing process and we will continue to seek for other meaningful ways to assist the less fortunate in every possible way."

StarHub’s donation will come in handy for The Boys’ Brigade Sharity Gift Box who have been actively appealing for corporations and individuals to help donate essential food and electrical items, toiletries and clothes. StarHub’s donation includes basic electrical items such as airports, fans, electric kettles, rice cookers, irons and juicers, and also basic food items such as milk, cereal, soy sauce, sugar, Milo, vitamin and calcium tablets. These donations will benefit the residents from several homes including Care Community Services Society, Asian Women’s Welfare Association, Sunlove Home Dementia Day Care, TOUCH Senior Activity Centre, Lions Befrienders and Peacehaven.

"This is a boost to the Sharity Gift Box," said Mr John Lim, Chairman of The Boys' Brigade Sharity Gift Box Organising Commitee. "The beneficiaries’ wishes are essentially items which they need for everyday use. We are very happy that StarHub has opened its heart in meeting their basic needs and we are sure that their beneficiaries will have more reason to enjoy Christmas this year!"

StarHub’s previous community efforts via the StarHub IDD Empowerment Fund included donation of 437 wheelchairs to 21 community associations and over $100,000 worth of educational tools and food items to 10 children’s homes.
